Second go at it,
So as I lay here in my sheets, I begin to wonder what life really means. What are the perks of it all? Will I be able to enjoy my life once I reach my goals or will it continue down this rabbit hole of wondering what life will bring me next? I ask that with no intention of getting a response, yet a voice echoes from a distance almost answering my question. "Maybe you just haven't found your true calling," the voice sounds both far away and right next to me. I grab a shirt as to not frighten the neighbors with my half nude body, head outside expecting to be greeted with the unknown voice. To my surprise there is nothing there, odd. Suddenly my front door slams shut, I can hear crashing from inside but my blinds are all suddenly shut before I can see who has just broke into my house with me standing in the doorway. I call the police and they said they will be there shortly to confront the person inside.
Thirty minutes pass and the crashing has stopped, the police arrive and greet me with demands. "Did you see the person? What do they look like? How did they get passed you?" I explain that I didn't see anyone enter my house, and continue to explain the situation as I remember it happening. "So you heard a voice from outside, and went to check it out? When did the noises from inside your home stop?" I explained that they stopped about two or three minutes before they arrived here.
"Alright, stand back. I'm going to attempt to get inside," the officer turns the knob and the door creaks open, revealing a clean living room. "Is anyone in here? This is the police, show yourself with your arms in the air!" silence. The officer walks through the house, seemingly starting to doubt my claim. "Sir, no one is here and your belongings seem to be intact. If you have no further concerns, I will leave and do a quick lap around the neighborhood to see if there are any suspicious persons walking around." With that, the officer leaves.
I think to myself, did I make that up? Did I just become so bored with my life that I had created this illusion that something exciting finally happened to me? I go back inside to my couch and see a figure from the corner of my eye disappear. "Don't worry, I don't think you're that crazy", the same voice from earlier spoke in a raspy, yet soft, tone. "I will always be here," the voice now loud in my own head, feeling like it might explode. I stare in horror as I glance at my own reflection in my TV, a dark figure growing behind me threateningly, with shadowing tentacles ready to drag me to whatever depths the figure arose from.
