[2D] Generating โ 8/8 :: Stickers on Vinyl
I went and printed the phenakistoscope at the Print Shop and stuck them on a cheap vinyl from Kops for this mockup.
I designed the backside of the centre sticker with the track titles of both Side A and B in the style of the table of contents in Rebecca Solnit's Faraway Nearby.

In my phenakistoscope, I made sure to incorporate in some way the characteristics that I noted down previously.
All the elements can be separated into concentric sections, the title of "volution" acts as a subtle grounding element, and I plan to print on aged paper I came across in the third floor studios.

Here it is. The first phenakistoscope. I was quite lazy with this i will not lie, I used a random phenakistoscope template and some Tai Chi instructional graphics. I did not follow the phenakistoscope tutorial here so it doesn't work, but we live and learn.

[2D] Exploration โ 10/10 :: Phenakistoscope Tutorial
Perhaps the only phenakistoscope tutorial on YouTube. And not only that, but its killer! Super throrough, it comes with all the packaged files and 11 hours of workflow footage.
To be perfectly honest, the tutorial was far more complex than my skills in After Effects could keep up with, so the included files weren't much help. But there were enough bits and pieces that I could understand to get my own phenakistoscope up and spinning.

To allow more freedom in the making of the phenakistoscope, I chose to rotoscope my body so that I could choose whatever I wanted as the background.

I bought this toy kids camera at the beginning semester and itโs been getting great use between projects for many of my friends. The photos have this fantastic grainy quality to them, so I decided to give it a shot for my own project as an upgrade of the digital halftone mockup. I picked out 12 frames and photographed them just off my laptop screen, then scanned and compiled them into a gif.
