28 in 28: Day 23
Brace yourself: I believe in The Secret, sort of.
Not in the way many people seem to believe in it, that if you think of fancy cars or buckets of money, that these things will magically come your way. Or that if things in your life are not going well, that you somehow made those things happen.
But here's what I do believe: if you want something and finally start believing you deserve it, you might just start acting like you deserve it, and things may start lining up.
What I mean is, if you're closed-minded, and shut everything out, then you can't be surprised when nothing happens. But when you start being open, great things may come your way. They don't have to be major things, they don't have to be millions or vacation homes. They're just little things. And those things can start to add up.

28 in 28: Day 22
I cut my hair, painted my toenails glittery silver, slept in until 11, had an iced coffee at 12:30, ate eggs and potatoes and avocado on a sidewalk, walked through the Berkeley hills, wished I weren't wearing a sweater, changed my sheets from the geometric muted grey ones to the ones with bright yellow and grey flowers, bought soap that smells like honey, and my mind is racing with possibility: spring is here.
28 in 28: Day 21
I'm into clothes. That wasn't always the case. One of my earliest memories was the first time I decided to pick out my own clothes and my mom seemed to be upset with me. I know now that was just a very clear turning point that I was getting older, but at the time I felt very guilty that I had upset her.
So, my interest in clothes laid dormant until I was about 20, when I discovered online shopping. Since then, I've kinda stumbled into my signature "look." For most of my 20s this was cute t-shirts and jeans, with forays into dress-wearing once in a while.
On one of many trips to Vegas, I realized I felt a lot more comfortable in dresses, and have gravitated towards wearing 90% dresses and skirts. Jeans have only made an appearance once this year. Make no mistake that weekends are mostly spent in leggings or workout gear, though.
Clothing is important to me, and I pretty much wear what I want. The reality is there's no amount of "flattering" clothes or spanx that will make anyone believe I am anything but what I am. And, staying in the safe realm of boot cut jeans and A-line skirts is boring.
What I've learned is that life is better with a good pair of tights and a fun dress.

My writing wall continues. But we gotta push through to the finish line. I am sitting on the train after a long day watching a group of earnest looking kids, like the ones i went to college with, laughing, looking cute and fresh faced and like they don't care about their appearance. Like any person raised in New York, all I can think is 'what the fuck are you so happy about?'
