When I left the house today it was in the worst mood. The sunlight felt too harsh and too bright. The whole world seemed all too much. So I hid in the library and I chipped away at my mountain of work. When I emerged it was to a world that was quiet and subdued. The streets soft. The light not burning but glowing gently. The mountain of work still a mountain but a smaller one.
I keep having these moments of panic where I think there's just too much content to get through. Too much to learn. Too little in me to hold it all. But with patience and consistency and time, it all passes.

I was watching Salt Fat Acid Heat on Netflix earlier today, and in Acid, Samin goes to Mexico to make faces while eating salsa, honey, and sour oranges. Seriously, I would like to enjoy anything as much as Samin enjoys food.
At some point during the episode, she meets an elderly woman who makes a fuck ton of tortillas -- How many? About 200 a day! -- and watching Samin watch the expert make tortillas took me back in time. Five years. But also still here. I was in two places at once.
There I was, in 2019, in my living room watching Samin watch someone flip tortillas, and also in 2014, in the kitchen of my old apartment watching R, my girlfriend at the time, flip phulkas.
Are phulkas just wheat tortillas? Are tortillas maize phulkas?
Either way, right now in 2019, I’m thinking of flipping some phulkas myself.
