It is every driver’s worst nightmare: you are driving, you see what you think is a freeway onramp, you proceed to go up it, only to realize that you’ve actually gone up a freeway off-ramp, and are now travelling on the wrong side of the freeway.  Admittedly a rare occurrence, it is one we all think about, because it has been known to happen.  And when it has happened, it has almost always resulted in a fatal head-on collision.   This is, in part, because one’s first reaction when in a crisis on the road is to pull over to the right shoulder, but if you are on the wrong side of the road, pulling over to the right will put you smack in the middle of the left (e.g. fast) lane.

The results from a head-on collision can be tragic: traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, lost limbs, and even death.  And while someone who crashes into a car driving in the wrong direction will certainly have a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver on the wrong side of the road, money damages can only go so far in righting-wrongs.

Rancho Cucamonga rollover crash on 210 Freeway kills woman

RANCHO CUCAMONGA — A woman died in a rollover crash on the 210 Freeway early Thursday.

The woman, whose name wasn’t released because her relatives haven’t been notified, was pronounced dead at the scene on the eastbound 210, west of the 15 Freeway at 1:10 a.m.
