It has been too hot to play in the room with the consoles, so I have taken to playing games from my PC. Right now, I am getting back into BlazBlue, starting with Calamity Trigger. I recall it being a reasonably fun and engaging game, and I enjoyed its story. So I settle into Arcade mode, picked Ragna the Bloodedge (he’s the all-rounder as far as I’m concerned), and make my way through it up until the second to last character I need to fight. Hakumen. Now, for those who don’t generally play fighter games, the Arcade mode is generally where you fight a certain number of the cast to get to the ‘end’. The last character is a boss character, but the rest are usually just AI-controlled fighters. These fighters are the same ones available to you, the player, so in a reasonably well-balanced fighter, they have no advantages or disadvantages over the player, necessarily. It’s just you fightin’ like ten people to get to the end and be able to declare your character the best person what fights. And I am at the second to last character. Hakumen. And. Hakumen. Is. Just. Killing. Me. Over and over. I had not had a very hard time up until this point, but now Hakumen is taking me to the own zone repeatedly. And I can tell the AI is not necessarily fighting much better; it still occasionally is punching midair for no reason or making nonsensical movement choices, but it doesn’t matter. Hakumen is in my home, disrespecting me, and disrespecting my cow. Anyway, turns out he’s not Hakumen. He’s Unlimited Hakumen. Expanded skill set, fatter health bar, damage boost. Anyway I’ve been meaning to do more writing I think maybe I’ll get on that.
