I LOVE the art you’ve made for the challenge posts this year, they’re stunning!
Thank you so much! I had so much fun making them! In case it got buried on the rules page, the prize this year is a tote featuring the art! ;)

UGH I love how joyful the fandom gets at this time of year? I've been paying more attention to the fandom and this blog lately and everyone's just bubbling with excitement. There's so much creativity, especially with the festival and how much everyone gets into it! I had an intense moment of appreciation and just wanted to share the thought! :)
ME TOO??????? I FEEL SO, SO ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Each Scorpio Races season is special, but it feels especially so this year! I totally have to credit @applecakeandchainsaw and @notpuckconnolly with giving the fandom a shot in the arm this year the Free Rein streaming party, among other things. And @skatzaa with all the fan fiction and recs! And, really, there are so many of you whose enthusiasm throughout the year has really kept us going, so thank you to everyone! I wish I could list out every single one of you! You are all wonderful and deserve so much credit for making The Scorpio Races Fandom such an utter joy!
Hey just a heads up I changed my url from puckconnolly (I know literally the greatest) to whotaylorswiftanyways. I already finished all my posts but if you need me to re-link things, just let me know!
How did you ever manage to get that Puck url? It’s like the holy grail of character urls! :)
Thanks so much for the heads up! The links I’ve checked are broken, but I think if I reblog the posts from your new url, the “read more” links will work again. The numbered links in your posts probably need to be relinked, or you could just create a masterpost with your new links and I can also reblog that? Whichever is easier!
P.S. I haven’t gotten a chance to get all caught up on reading, but I’m so impressed with your posts! :3
I'm kinda behind the challenge dates because of school I can post them even if they're late?
You can absolutely still catch up and post them late! You can post them up to the wire! We’d love to have you!!!!!
Hey there! I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the challenges-things went a little south with my job and I don’t think I’ll be able to participate in the races this year. Thanks for everything, and if anyone asks, Nora Beaton fell off the ferry on her way to the island and was eaten by wonderful monster horses, as most tourists do 😉
Oh, nooooo!!! Not an early watery grave!!!!
Anyway, it’s totally understandable. It’s such a busy time of year. If you do think you might want to get caught up, you’re still definitely welcome to post whenever you have time! If not, next year!!!

I've just discovered this event, and I'm in love with the idea. The Scorpio races is one of my favorite novels, so I'm seriously debating joining as a rider. Do you have any tips for a newcomer?
Oh my goodness! Please do join! It’s so much fun. I think the best part is getting to feel like you live on Thisby yourself, as well as discovering it afresh through the eyes of others.
I’ve always run the Festival and not participated, but I would suggest assessing how much time you have and how long it takes you to write or make art, etc. You don’t have to do every prompt, so it’s okay to pick the ones which interest you if you think you’ll be tight on time. I think it would probably be better to do fewer prompts, but make it all the way to the end, rather than get burned out! If you have time, plan ahead!
Also, I think people enjoy collaborating, and there’s different degrees to which people do this, from full-on roleplay to occasional mentions within individual stories.
On my end, I love it when people incorporate art and writing and moodboards and video and all sorts of things into their prompts. It doesn’t just have to be one thing!
If there are any veterans of the Festival, do please chime in with your tips! :)
Hello first time racer here: I have an issue in that I strive for accuracy, but don't actually know anything about horses or the related topics. Do you know any good links or such which I could peruse? Also, what time frame is this often based in. Is Puck a legend of the past or a fellow racer?
Hello, hello! So glad you can join us! I’d be just the same way, so I hope this helps. Here’s something called “A Writer’s Guide to Horses” to get you started. There are many equestrians in the fandom, so maybe one of them would also be willing to chime in with advice!
The amazing thing about The Scorpio Races Festival is that even though everyone is pretty much each writing in their own time period, somehow it all weaves together and makes sense! In some people’s challenges, the characters of the book populate the stories as background characters; in others, a handful of years have passed, or decades. I can’t remember if anyone has delved deep into the history of Thisby, but I think someone must have at some point? I am a total sucker for period pieces, myself, so I usually keep the aesthetic/spirit of the Festival sort of early-to-mid-century like the book, but you can write in any period you like!
Let me know if you have any more questions! :)
Okay, it's my first time participating in any kind of event like this, so I'm totally lost lol. I tried to entry last year but I FREAKED OUT. So... As a tourist, we have to give our names and the city we came from. Can it be anywhere? Or just Europe, or us, or somewhere mentioned on the book? Sorry if it's a dumb question. Also, how ppl usually do the challenges? They made up all the stories as the thing goes and they meet the other participants or...? I'm so lost, sorry!
Glad you’re joining us this year! I am always happy to clarify and answer any and every question, big or small! I want you all to be successful in navigating Thisby’s waters! :)
As a Tourist, you reblog this post with your character’s full name and then wherever they come from. It can be anywhere you can dream up! It just gives you a starting point, because Thisby draws all sorts, and something has brought your character all this way! It also makes for a fun graphic because people used to sign hotel log books with their residences! (Side note, as a Tourist you don’t have to stay at The Skarmouth Hotel either. You can stay anywhere on the island!)
There are a couple of ways you can do the character challenges!
Some people work on them ahead of time, essentially creating a story with different parts, and then post each part when it’s the proper week.
Other people might create them while the Festival is going on.
Others might do a mix of the two, perhaps doing an outline by planing the general story-line (or drawings or videos or whatever) ahead of time and filling it in with more detail once more information becomes available.
The degree to which you allow other people’s challenges to affect your own is up to you! You might actively collaborate or you might sprinkle in some details from the other challenges. And if you don’t want to include the characters of other participants in your story, that’s okay too!
Some people might be getting in touch with each other now, and if you’re interested in doing something like that, feel free to reach out through a comment or post, and I’ll try to make sure it gets seen. If you want to wait until the challenges are posted, that works too.
The whole process is sort of organic, especially once the Festival starts, but it helps to come in with a game plan!
Anyway, I hope that helps, and if you still have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask! :)
