if we are all smoking project hail mary crossovers i have been thinking about a world where 6 months after the launch of the hail mary, the borant corp. takes earth and begins the crawl. and grace just narrowly misses all of that shit happening

dungeon crawler carl is so fascinating to me because it holds steady to the idea that even the worst person you know has a reason for behaving the way they do. It's never so simple as "because i'm evil" or "because I want power". those desires have to come from somewhere. maybe you put your daughter in harms way because you were told it would keep her safe in the long run, and when she dies as a result, you lash out and attempt to avenge her. maybe you're afraid for your life in a dangerous situation, and the only way out that you can see is becoming strong enough that nothing can hurt you, even if it means hurting other people, because you need to escape from this place by any means necessary. maybe your memories have been tampered with, clouded, and... you dont understand whats going on anymore. maybe the breadth of your existence is so vast that you dont understand what it truly means to die.

Signet is such an interesting character. She’s very Jessica rabbit adjacent wherein when you first see her you’re tempted to write her off. Oh she’s a naked lady asking for help with a quest. That early into the series you’re not so familiar with Matt Dinniman’s game yet, and he’s asking you to trust him. So you do. And then you realize what being done to her. That she is barely a person, she’s a cog in the machine, she’s set decoration, and that’s an injustice being done to her. That she deserves more of a life than this. That Carl believes everyone deserves a better life than this, even if they aren’t “real”. It’s incredible.
