As the timeline progressed into the new millennium, the sleek minimalism of the 90s carried over into bridal style. This was in stark contrast to what was happening in fashion at the time, as trends were varied and far from minimal. For the first time in our Season of Brides series, everyday fashion doesn't show its influence in bridal gowns.
The growing celebrity culture had women look toward famous brides for inspiration, with their gowns often blending traditional elements with modern designs. The strapless neckline reigned supreme, but asymmetrical and halter tops were also popular options. Simple fabrics such as silk and taffeta helped achieve a streamline silhouette.
This was also the first decade we started to see diversity in the bridal party. Dressing a maid of honour in a gown different from the other bridesmaids became a prominent trend. Strapless necklines were also hugely popular for attendants, while hemlines were usually shorter than the bride's floor length gown. CC links and references images under the cut.
