If the start is any indication this might be a long season.

Started off poorly when the rink was pretty much just a serious of pools of water instead of ice. That's always annoying and makes things harder.

But I did make some good saves on a play early, including at least one save when I had no sight of where the puck was. But not long after that I stopped a pass across but slid out of position in the water while the player on the other team had no one bother him at all while he skated in and scored.

A bit later we had a powerplay but gave up a breakaway and I let in a soft five hole goal. Then in the second I let in one under my right arm after the defense gave up the puck at the blue line.

We scored one after that which was the prettiest goal of the night, some great passing on a two on one. Then in the third I let in another under my right arm after we had possession behind the net but gave it up and then let their guy have all the time he wanted to set up his shot without anyone bothering him.

We scored a second after that, on a dump on net from wide down low, was surprised it went in actually. Then as time was running out I went to the bench to try to score but instead they got one in the empty net and we wound up losing 2-5.

The shots were about even but it felt like aside from our first goal we didn't make a great many chances and gave up some good ones the other way which I really should have saved but didn't, which is always frustrating.

Anyway, maybe I'll be better adjusted to the slower speed of play next week after playing in much faster pickup games during the break. And maybe our defense will perform a bit better.
