Since September of 2010, I’ve recorded at least 7 seconds everyday of my day-to-day life. Every week I edit 7 of those 7 second-long clips together into (what I refer to as) a 7x7; and every year since 2010 I go back through the last 12 month’s worth of 7x7s and pull 1 second from each clip used, resulting in a 1x365: 1 second for every day of the year. … If you’d like to watch the original 7x7s you can find them all here http://mikeambs.com/7x7
An update to this post here...
To write, even if at first it makes me miserable. Got to start somewhere...
To note my thoughts here more often. Lately I've been keeping a lot to myself, and it's not doing me any good.
January 1st, 2015
(So yeah it's actually the second, but I was busy yesterday.)
List all the things you want to accomplish this year.
I just want to be healthy mainly.
I'm aiming to do yoga/pilates at least twice a week.
I have set my reading challenge for this year to 50 books, 2014s goodreads challenge was 40 books, only managed 38, which isn't bad at all.
Of the 403 films I watched last year, 193 of those were re-watches. I'd like to watch more films I've never seen before. I've made a list here to log them.
Might have to have a further think on this, and update if I think of anything else. I am easily disappointed, so I don't normally actively set goals, at least not big 'life' things.

7x7
Every day since September of 2010, I’ve made sure to record at least 7 seconds from my every-day-life, at the end of each week, I edit together 7 of those 7 second clips to create, what I call, a 7x7.
The above clip is one of the earliest 7x7s, posted long before I knew this was going to become a thing I wanted to record and share indefinitely. This project is important to me in a few ways...
It helps me remember the little things in my life...
Being a strictly-structured project (no music, 7 second cuts only, etc), it helps me constantly stay recording / editing without becoming too overwhelming.
These smaller 49 second clips allow me to quickly go back through the last year, and create a yearly-recap consisting of 365 1 second clips, or 1x365s.
If you'd like to see more 7x7s, you can do so here - and if you're more interested in watching the (to be honest, much more entertaining) 1x365s, you can view those here.

This video is *slightly* longer than the previous 1x365s, I usually go from Sept-Sept, but I wanted to reset the span of these videos to Dec-Dec. So, this year, I’m using footage from Sept 2012 to Dec 2013.
So much has happened in this last year - nearly 200 days were spent working in a dark, stop-motion stage on BLANK; Xander seemed to age 2 years in just a few months time; I worked with one of the most amazingly-talented musicians on For Thousands of Miles; Erica and I saw old friends again, made a few new ones. Our close friend lost their husband, and then our family struggled with the loss of my cousin… to our family and friends, you are an inspiration, and we love you, these losses have been a difficult reminder to never take anyone or anything for granted.
The song playing is ‘Repose in Blue’, by Eluvium - a very close friend introduced me to this song several months ago, during production on BLANK; and I think this song will always remind me of this time in my life, it somehow has a way of saying, without words, what the last 15 months meant then in-that-moment, and what they mean now looking-back.
