he has lived here his whole life. he knows every trail through the cedar forest, every bend in the river, the exact hour in the evening when the fireflies come up from the grass. he has never thought to call it beautiful because it has always simply been. the other has come from the city for the summer only, someone's cousin, you see, already counting the weeks until he can leave, already a little bored and a little lonely and doing his best not to show either.
the summer is long. the town is small. they find each other the way people find each other in places with long days and not enough to do, without design, without ceremony — and then keep finding each other, day after day, because something in the finding has become necessary.
what do you do after being seen clearly for the first time by someone who isn't looking for anything from you — what do you do when you realize, slowly and then all at once, that someone has become the texture of your days? how do you go about naming something you've never had a name for, in a language that doesn't quite have the word, in a summer that is running out?
the countryside is luminous here. the cicadas are very loud. something important will be said badly and awkwardly and understood perfectly.
cravings: honestly, i just want to make up our own feel-good, occasionally angsty coming of age (18+, as always) queer anime/manga/novel. i want beach episodes, summer festivals, studio ghibli esque visual poetry. i do not have any expections for this because i want it be sweet and cute. a story that smells like honeydew, tastes like shaved ice and feels like hot sand under your bare feet.
