Boybands: a canonical event in every teenager’s life. But how do you discover the boyband that was made for you? Well, I’m probably not the best person to answer that, since I still haven’t managed to choose between three, not even counting the other forty I have a tiny crush on. But my protected ones, my absolute favorites, are 5 Seconds of Summer, BTS, and One Direction. Each one came into my life at a different moment.

All three boybands were part of my life and, most importantly, part of so much of who I am today. A large part of my personality, my tastes, and even my ambitions was shaped by them in some way. My passion for writing, for example, was born when I started writing fanfictions inspired by that universe. My desire to learn a new language also came from there, from the almost urgent need to better understand artists who spoke directly to me, even while living on the other side of the world.

Besides that, they played a huge role in my mental and emotional well-being. In many moments, they were a refuge, company, and even a source of understanding. Because sometimes it is strange to think that an artist who lives thousands of miles away can put into a song exactly what you are feeling and do it in a way that you do not even know how to explain yourself. But it happens. And when it happens, you realize that you are not as alone as you thought.

The three of them came into my life as simple bands, but stayed as part of the person I became.
