18005 Ten years ago I was working on this fantasy novel with my favorite singers as the characters (they had different names of course, but they were intentionally written to represent those singers). It was about an Elven kingdom in a medieval-ish world whose existence was secret to the rest of the world, especially the humans. Tarja was the Queen and Tuomas was some sort of a prime-minister and close counsellor who was secretly in love with her (it was a matriarchal society so there was no king, although Tarja’s role as a ruler was mostly symbolic while Tuomas did most of the actual ruling as her prime-minister). Liv was not present in the story itself, but she was mentioned as the Queen before Tarja in the line of succession. Vibeke, Floor and Cristina were the high nobility of this elven kingdom and Sharon was the High-Priestess, sorceress and soothsayer. Mark Jansen was a lowborn revolutionary with a romantic subplot with Simone, the princess (they were dating by the time I was writing it). The commonfolk of the elven kingdom were meant to represent the fans. The main character of the story was Amy Lee, who was my favorite singer at the time. She was an elf who was somehow separated from the Elven kingdom as a baby and raised by humans, thus emboding human culture, habits and mindset. Upon learning her true heritage as a young adult she embarked on a journey to find the Elven kingdom, but when she got there she was received with suspicion and hostility by the population, as elven culture was strongly isolationist and disdainful of other cultures, especially human culture, so the thought of an elf acting and thinking as a human was so bothersome to them that they’d rather deny she was and elf at all and call her a invader. Amy somehow managed to make herself known to Tarja and, unlike the commonfolk, the Queen and the nobility were rather intrigued by the notion of a human-raised elf and interpreted it as a sign that the times were changing and disclosing their existence to the rest of the world might not be a bad idea after all, as the Elven kingdom might benefit of some cultural exchange (which greatly pleased Mark, who was always critical of the elitism of elven culture and had been a militant of non-isolationist politics since forever). But the population was torn on this matter (mostly unfavorable, but still torn) so a civil war broke and shit went down and everything. The story also had little references to themes present in the lyrics of those bands, such as the Dead Boy, which was an ancient prophecy of the elven folk Tuomas ended up fulfilling, or the fact that at some point Amy would literally walk through a field of paper flowers and everything. And every once in a while someone would drop a piece of lyric within a dialogue. I had the whole story in my head but I never finished because I went through some rough shit at the time regarding my mental health and I kinda lost the momentum, but I think it would be fun to share this with you, so here it is.
