[1/15] . I decided to start this year by finishing this book, Call Me By Your Name by Andre Achiman. Honestly, I would say this is not a book I typically would love to read. But after doing some research and getting some recommendations I wanted to give it a try. . . . The story sets in Italian Riviera back in the mid 1980s. It tells about Elio 17-years-old boy (almost 18 years) who falls in love with 24-years-old man named Oliver, who spend whole summer days in the Elio family's mansion to revise his manuscriptย as a postdoc teaching at Columbia University. And those six weeks' duration could give them an experience that marks them for a lifetime . . . Achiman describes the whole story by using Elio pov and in my opinion, all those inner restlessness seems natural for a boy who found himself (in his puberty) falls in love with a man. I also love how the way Oliver choose to continue his life in the end after what they have been gone through. Even if it hurts but that should be happened, right? And my most favorite character in this book is Elio's Father. He is one of best thing you can encountered on this novel. I love how he treat his son/family and I love the portrait of his wisdom. There is one moment he said to Elio, "We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything - what a waste!" . . . It's not just another coming of age novel. It's not just a gay love story. I refer this novel as a love story and a family story. I would recommend you to read the story by listening to mystery of love and visions of Gideon by sufjan stevens. It would be completely perfecto.
