The big one, the final meeting before the exhibition! The meeting was fairly straight forward, paying back money out of our sponsorship to anyone who has used their own money, sorting out who would be printing the t-shirts. With a week till our exhibition, it was becoming 'real' and we needed this last little elements to bring it all together.

Visitor Book is key for the opening night so we can get lots of feedback on the exhibition, providing us with thoughts on what they liked, what could be improved etc. Noemie has taken money from sponsorhsip and will be heading to Paperchase to pick up a lovely book for us.

T-shirts have to be printed this week, a little last minute but still do able. We have decided to purchase our own black t-shirts in whatever style we want and to meet at 1.30 on Monday at Eldon to hand them to Jess and Lauren who will then head off to Brilens to book in a time to print. I've managed to organise with Alice to pick up my black top from work as I can't get away in time.

Our Posters will be on display in Fratton station this week. After much persistence from Becky, she managed to get hold of the manager of Fratton train station who has agreed to display our posters for the coming weeks. 

Wall space has become a bit of issue again with some people changing their mind about where they are going without informing the group. We decided the best way to do it was a simple hand vote, voting for which wall you wanted to be on. Luckily some people weren't particularly bothered and in the end we found that wall space shouldn't be an issue. We worked out we would have one person on the grey wall (Lauren's prison photographs needed to be on this background to suit her photographs), four people on the white/graffiti wall and nine of us on the green wall. Sophie would also have her projection screen to display her shadow images and this could easily be placed on the day. The white/graffiti wall is going to be covered in cotton drill material as it is fairly thick and heavy so it will cover the graffiti and be able to support anything hung on it without costing a huge amount (roughly £5 a meter). In case of any issues with wall space, we have decided to meet at Bonzo at 10am on the opening night (9th December) to allow plenty of time to reorganise if needed and to overcome any hanging problems.

Health and Safety is obviously important so we have decided to have a rota to cover the doors, food, drink stalls etc so that there is some control over all areas. Having someone on the drink stall is particularly important in order not to provide any under-aged with alcohol. We have also agreed to all do are part in keeping Bonzo tidy during the opening night, tidying up as the night progresses and all helping out at the end.

Alice is still keen to perform at the opening night, looking to start singing at half 6 till 7. Her brother has also offered to play guitar in the background for a period of time.

Zoe mentioned at the beginning of our planning about possibly having a time lapse or video of our opening night to allow us to share the experience with anyone who couldn't come while also acting as publicity for people to come down to the exhibition during the following week. Nik from Yatta has again offered his services, to come down on the day to create a time lapse of us setting up and the opening night itself. This will mean that we can focus on our exhibition while Nik documents it. Fantastic!

Business cards, there will be lots! We are each going to bring business cards to the exhibition and place them on one of Bonzo's 'hot desks' so that it is possible for the visitors to get hold of us or to get more information on websites etc.

Food and drink was our last point of the meeting. Katy, Zoe and Jess were left in charge of the shopping and were given a budget of £50 to get everything we would need. We created a rough list of things to get, trying to cater to everyone, looking at getting red and white wine, lemonade, coca cola, snack food of some kind (getting something suitable for vegetarians too) as well as disposable plates, cups and bin bags. They decided to head off on Wednesday evening to do their shop and store everything at Zoe's as she lives just down the road from Bonzo. 

Second part of opening night - The Night

After all the hard work we had put into this exhibition, tonight was the night we had to pull off. Family and friends were travelling down to view our show, official invites were sent to university lecturers as well as many of the guest lecturers we have had over the past two years at uni. People started to arrive just before the official opening at 6, within half an hour the studio was beginning to fill. I must admit I'm not entirely sure what to say, it was overall a fantastic night. The atmosphere was fantastic, along with the live music and the presence of all our lecturers, the head of school and Patrick Dalton of Shit London. 

Despite my small nature, I just about managed to stretch above the crowd to get this shot of the opening night. This is only half of the studio and was early in the night, all of us were overwhelmed by the amount of people who turned up. The atmosphere and location was ideal, with some people popping in purely because they had walked past and wanted to see what was happening. A few members managed to give out business cards, with myself getting a few offers to buy my skateboard decks. 

Anyway, as the night went on we had a few acoustic performances from our very own Alice Chidgey. Must say that myself, and I'm sure everyone else, are extremely proud of Alice because the nerves had kicked in a few days before yet she still sung and helped show that as a team, we had covered every possible element. 

The only way I can think to end this post is the total of people who came through the door. Karl (or Mr Bonzo as Zoe likes to call him) was keeping a rough running total of the people coming through the door and we had reached over 300 with nearly an hour still to go so I can only imagine what the actually total was.

Well it's has happened, the Opening Night of 14m2 at Bonzo down Albert Road. I think the best way to approach this section of my blog is to break it up into sections rather than having on long post. 

First part of opening night - Setting Up

We had decided to head down to Bonzo at 10am to start setting up, that way we would allow for plenty of time to put up our photographs, reorganise the studio is needed and get any last minute supplies. 

First thing first, tidying. Bonzo was still recovering from the Man Attacked By exhibition the week before as well as the screen printing workshop that night, so upon our arrival there were a few prints lying around (must admit I had a little nosey through them before we tidied up as I would love to learn screen printing) but we quickly piled them up and moved them onto one of the 'Hot Desks' in order for them not to get damaged while we took over. Next was moving the chairs and coffee table, between me and Zoe we managed to move them into the corners of the shop. This had opened up the entire floor space and we were able to get to all of the green wall and grey wall (we were still waiting on the white cover for the graffiti wall at this point as the person with it was running late) so we began claiming our spots and starting hanging our prints. Overall as a team we have got along very well, with all of us helping each other out when hanging our work. The process went rather smoothly, with Nik from Yatta Magazine on site creating a time lapse of it all and offering a few tips. Prints on walls and name plates/QR tags/other pieces of information up, we were ready for the exhibition. 

Next was our opening night details, first and most excitingly was the revealing of our t-shirts. The day before Jess and Lauren were up bright and early to go to Brilens to screen print out tops. During the week before all the group (minus one person who despite continuous opportunities didn't bother supplying a t-shirt) had given Jess our black t-shirts so we knew that everyone would have one and the Facebook post of our t-shirts once they were printed was received with many a 'like' from the team. Wearing the t-shirt would allow anyone coming to the opening night to know who was exhibiting work and would hopefully feel more comfortable in approaching us. 

The final piece of the setting up jigsaw was the food and drink. The night before Zoe, Katy and Jess went shopping for these opening night essentials which were being stored down the road from Bonzo at Zoe's house. There was no point in bringing it to the studio yet as it was only 12 and opening wasn't for 6 hours so we decided that we'd meet up again at 4.30pm at Bonzo. Then we could all help transport the refreshments from Zoe's to Bonzo, begin spreading it out and have any last minute talks. It would also provide the perfect opportunity for a group photograph of everyone in our matching 14m2 exhibition tops.

Yatta came along to the setting up and opening night of 14m2, producing a time lapse of both occasions and video our final pieces. Again a big thank you to the Yatta team! 

Today we had another guest lecturer, this time in the form of Joanne Barringer, the health and safety official of Portsmouth Uni. Joanne explained the benefits of completing risk assessments and health and safety forms. Risk assessments would be of great benefit if the exhibition was taken to court as it reduces the possibility of anything happening and supports that all needed precautions were taken. She explained we needed to be aware of the hazards of the locations as well as the hazards we would create e.g. cables.

There are three aspects of the exhibition that we would need to cover when completing a risk assessment;

setting up - step ladders, hanging photographs etc.

exhibition - fire safety, trip hazards etc.

dismantling - similar to setting up issues
