History Wednesday: Joan of Arc Burned at the Stake (1431)

OTD in 1431, Jeanne D’arc or Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in Rouen, present day France. She was tried by the English, who bought her from the Burgundians, who captured her outside Compiègne.Her trial for heresy, validated by pro-English bishop Pierre Cauchon, was later revoked by the same Catholic Churchwhich condemned her. She was made her a martyr in 1909.
I love the Fauquembergue drawing. It’s the only depiction of Joan made while she was alive, and it’s also a doodle!
