          he  gets  attached  to  people  ,  things.  a  manifestation  of  energy  until  there’s  enough  to  form  some  sort  of  physical  appearance.  he’s  no  stranger  to  it.  in  fact  ,  it  could  be  fun.  seeing  people  jump  and  stare  when  they  hear  an  unfamiliar  noise  ,  feel  an  unexpected  cool  breeze  --  your  typical  ghost  shit.  he  lives  for  it.  there’s  nothing  wrong  with  being  a  cliche  ,  every  now  and  again.  

          negative  energy  ,  that’s  what  he’s  most  attached  to.  and  this  man  seems  to  have  more  than  enough  radiating  off  of  him.  it’s  weird  ,  really  weird  ,  how  one  person  can  seem  so  happy  on  the  outside  ...  yet  feel  the  complete  opposite.  the  human  brain  is  fucked  ,  that’s  all  raleigh’s  realized. 

          and  he  knows  this  poor  soul  has  never  seen  him  before.  but  raleigh  knows  micah  has  felt  him.  or  caught  a  glimpse  out  of  the  corner  of  his  eye  ,  like  some  stereotypical  horror  movie  bullshit.  it’s  all  fun  and  games  ,  right  ?

          ❝  I  --  Y’KNOW  ,  JUST  ‘CAUSE.  ❞  oh  ,  what  a  fucking  liar  !  lies  from  a  man  that  only  knows  how  to  spew  bullshit  to  get  out  of  situations  he  wasn’t  fucking  prepared  to  be  in.  he  even  reaches  under  the  frames  ,  to  rub  at  his  eye  and  turn  away.  ❝  s’uh  ,  i  mean  --  fuck  ,  micah  ,  y’seen  these  streetlights  lately  ?  they  bright  as  fuck  ,  i  can’t  handle  all’a  that.  ❞

          he  doesn’t  remember  the  last  time  he  saw  the  other.  well  ,  fuck  ,  no  ...  that’s  a  lie.  he  remembers  that  day  perfectly  ,  like  it  was  fucking  yesterday.  facing  the  man  now  ,  it  makes  frankie’s  chest  ache.  like  whatever  hold  that  was  left  ,  had  been  ripped  open  even  further.  torn  at  the  seams  ,  with  no  promise  of  repair.

          ❝  y’said  i  changed  ,  ❞  he  murmurs  ,  and  ...  and  he  was  right.  maybe.  maybe  frankie  had  changed  ,  and  he  couldn’t  figure  out  if  it  was  for  the  better.  ❝  ‘n  --  ‘n  you’re  so  damn  sick’a  me.  you’re  not  mine  anymore.  ❞

          he  learned  it.  he  heard  it  ,  he  saw  it.  and  he  stuck  around  ,  because  somehow  ,  someway  ...  micah  had  his  heart.  a  twenty  year  old  boy  without  a  fucking  care  in  the  world  ,  that’s  all  frankie  was.  that’s  all  he  was  ,  until  he  met  the  pretty  boy  who’d  give  his  life  to  save  his  brother’s.  and  bodhi  o’carroll  ,  see  ,  he’s  just  a  kid.  seven  or  eight  at  most  ,  but  he’s  been  through  the  fucking  wringer.  but  frankie  promised  he’d  follow  micah  anywhere  ,  and  ...  that’s  how  they  got  here.

          a  couple  dozen  miles  outside  of  montgomery  ,  with  whatever  money  they’ve  got  left  thrown  together.  bodhi  fast  asleep  in  this  shitty  motel  6  ,  the  only  hotel  room  they’d  probably  be  able  to  afford  on  this  ...  well  ,  trip’s  not  the  right  word.  kind  of  like  runaways  now  ,  aren’t  they  ?  frankie’s  turning  over  some  shitty  prepaid  flip  phone  in  his  hands  ,  waiting  for  it  to  ring  ,  waiting  for  starboy  to  call  him  back.

          ❝  ‘ey  ,  ❞  he  speaks  quietly  ,  nudging  micah  with  his  elbow.  just  to  get  his  attention  ,  at  the  very  least.  ❝  i  can  fuckin’  FEEL  the  stress  comin’  off’a  ya  ,  pretty  baby  ,  cool  out.  everythin’  is  gonna  be  FINE.  we’ll  get  outta  this  shit  soon.  starboy’s  got  a  few  jobs  lined  up  already  ,  ‘n  i’ll  take  care’a  that  shit.  we’re  golden  once  we  hit  chicago  ,  promise.  ❞
