trying to think back to when i was like 14 or 15 and a kizash/ge shipper and like, yeah, the only way i got to the conclusion of shipping it back then was by completely ignoring mayu's character unless i could utilize her death to torment morish/ge
its like, genuinely the only way to come to the conclusion that morish/ge is a gore freak and in anyway actually similar to k/zami is to ignore everything he has with mayu. and the purpose of the ship wasnt to explore dynamics, it was exclusively an excuse to find myself edgy and cool for being into gore n shit. obv cant speak for every kizash/ge shipper but my experience as a dumb idiot teenager was entirely projecting my own fucked up thoughts and mania onto morish/ge even though they fell far out of line with the actual text of his character
dunno really where im going with this but maybe thats why kizash/ge shippers in particular get so defensive. theyve taken what they interpreted as a mostly blank slate character (morish/ge) and took a single element and projected and flanderized him to hell and back. and because of their unpacked misogyny, couldnt fathom mayu as an actual character, so they had to pair him with another man.
i think theres also probably something to be said about the fetishization of the relationship because of it being gay but its 1:30 in the morning and i cant get into that
hope this provides an interesting perspective on the whole awful mess that was the kizash/ge takeover of this fandom
honestly i think the morishige mischaracterization is basically entirely because ppl wanted someone(specifically a male character) to ship with kizami so they butchered morishige until he fit that role
something something the increased yaoi-ification of fandom. ppl only shipping things for its """dynamic""" and not actually how it reflects on the characters.. a whole lot a whole lot

it really is interesting how ppl always boil morishige down to gore freak and pretend like hes always been into gore when literally everything we see speaks to the contrary. stuck in an unfamiliar place surrounded by countless bodies with no sense into how you got there, it makes a lot of sense why he started acting the way he did. trying to cope through photography and reminding himself at least hes not dead twisted by the darkening effect into something much more horrific
