Iām not going to lie, my relationship has been far from perfect the past two years. Iāve cried, broke down, lost myself, and just everything in between. I became the girl I told myself to never be. I stayed with someone who had disrespected me and caused me so much pain. Iāve seen my friends be in abusive relationship, Iāve seen my friends cry over boys, Iāve seen my friends get walked all over by a boy; and I told myself to never let it get that far.
Shame on me for not being able to keep my own promise to me. If I had the strength that I do now two years earlier, I would most likely be single. The first couple of months were amazing, but thatās only because it was theĀ āhoneymoon stageā. It only went downhill from there. Many nights were filled with you ignoring my calls and texts, going out with your friends, partying with girls, and overall just pushing me to the side. I cried all the time. I cried myself to sleep and developed really bad anxiety. At times, I even wanted to hurt myself. It seemed like you never cared. It was always me beingĀ ācrazyā andĀ āneedyā and you just werenāt having it. Iām pretty sure you didnāt care for me, and I wish it was the same for me. I cried myself to sleep but still woke up every morning and wanted you. I could not let go. No matter how many degrading names you called me, no matter how many times you blocked my number, I couldnāt leave you. I was weak. I was dumb. I wanted you. I wanted us.
Iāve been reading so many posts about how you shouldnāt stay with a boy in hopes of turning him into the man you need or something along the lines of that. I shouldāve read those back then, because then maybe I wouldāve prevented myself from a couple of those sleepless nights filled with tears. But at the same time, Iām proud of myself for being strong enough to live through all of that. I really shouldnāt have put myself through that and Iām not proud of the way I was treated by him, but I can say that Iām in a different place right now. Iām honestly the happiest Iāve ever been and I think heās finally turning into the man that Iāve always wanted.Ā
I guess it depends on who youāre fighting for. If I ever have to go through what I went through, I know in a heartbeat that itās time to say goodbye and move on. I will never allow myself to feel like that and to continue to fight for someone like that.Ā Iām not condoning the behavior and the actions that occurred in the beginning of my relationship, but I am glad that I stayed. Iām happy that he was able to figure it out and finally make our relationship a priority. It took a little over a year and a half, but I finally see a future. I am really happy with where we are and I actually do see his effort to make me a priority and to make me happy. I went through the hardest times with him, but I can only see us moving up from here. I am also not going to lie and say I wasnāt super controlling and jealous, because I was. But I can see how weāve both grown up and learned to leave our habits behind so that we can actually build within this relationship. My persistent actions to show that I care did show him that I was there for him and that I really wanted the best for him. I believe that me constantly fighting for us was what he needed to realize and understand to know that he needs to change for me. For the sake of our relationship.
