I'm in love with the writer inside your head.
Something participating in NaNoWriMo for the first time is teaching me is to lower my focus. If I focus on the huge goal of 50,000 words, I'll convince myself to quit. But if I break it down into 1,000 word increments, I write better and I write longer. And it doesn't seem overwhelming. And when the 1,000 words feels like too much, I break it down to 500 words.
I don't find myself going, "oh goddd, there's still 1500 left before I reach my goal" or whatever. instead I just write. And when I stop to look at my word count, I realize I've actually written 200-500 over my goal. And then because I'm so close to the next 1,000, I finish it out as well. And the cycle continues. That's how I wrote over 9,000 words from the time I sat down yesterday to the time I went to be this morning.
Yes, it's only one instance. And I am not sure I can keep up quite that level of writing, but I think the same still applies. If I focus on the smaller goal and let the excitement of beating it carry me, I can write upwards of 4,000 a day.
And that amazes me. I am so grateful for this experience and this lesson. I am thankful that I decided to do NaNoWriMo this year.
