1) Know your core strength:
Before anything, you should know what, you are proficient in before you offer it to the world. Literally, everything is being outsourced these days. You should study what are the most in-demand skills and do your own swot analysis. If you have those skills then hone them to perfection. If not then acquire them as per your aptitude. Freelancing is tough. You are up against candidates from all over the world. To succeed, you have to be a master of your domain.
2)Communication skills:
It is another important skill to have before you start freelancing. You will be communicating with clients from all over the world. You will have to communicate with them mostly in the English language. So, you need to be quite good at it. Also, you should be able to effectively put across your message and make yourself heard. The communications should be done in a professional manner, with all the right questions asked, explanations called and listening to the client's needs and wants. You should understand what the client wants and you should communicate with the client in the language he understands. It should be a two-way process otherwise it will not succeed.
3) Art of Negotiation:
Negotiations are key to strike any business deal. You should be well versed in the art of effective negotiation skills. You should be able to do the required jobs in time. You should minimize distractions, increase your focus and plan your time accordingly. Most freelancers work from home so they have to deal with domestic chores and familial matters as well. The key is to strike a balance so that neither gets affected because of the other. There are also apps available that can help you manage your time well.
