Why are people comparing the Grey Cup to the Superbowl? I saw plenty of posts on Twitter from people saying that the Grey Cup or CFL sucks, the half-time show was garbage compared to the NFL etc, etc.  I don't get it. What do you expect?  First of all, The NFL makes over 8 BILLION dollars every year. The CFL? 150 Million.  The NFL has 10 times the population Canada has to draw from. 11 times if you count Canada (and you should).  You just can't compare the two leagues.

What you can say is that the CFL is distinctly Canadian.  It's played in searing heat and frigid cold -- in rain and snowstorms.  It has a history spanning 100 years, with incredible stories being told on the gridiron at the same time a young country was writing it's own history. What many younger Canadians don't know is that the CFL was actually the superior league for many years.  We had the best players and the best 'product'.

Besides the painful fact that the Roughriders won this year, the Grey Cup provided a very entertaining spectacle which included a very Canadian halftime show.  The Canuck-centric highlights:

- Canadian super pop-rock band Hedley, with Canadian Idol contestant Jacob Hoggard in a distinctly Canadian outfit

- Cheerleaders from all the teams bundled up in parkas.

- Ads for Ron Burgandy hosting Roar of the Rings Curling in Winnipeg on TSN

- A flying snowmobile.

If I have any American visitors they may think I am crazy. Just ask Tom Hanks though, he was there and will back me up.
