Tell us about hacks and tricks that help you with your writing.
My best hack, though it isn’t one I’ve had a chance to use of late, is to start a chapter/scene/etc with pencil/pen and paper. I find it’s easier to get the words out that way, rather than with a blank word doc. Once started, it’s much easier to either continue from there, or transfer to a doc and from there.

How do you get through the fire swamp?
(in reference to a metaphor about the hurdle of feeling not up to the task of writing a new book after the last? Or something?)
I didn’t really understand the context for the question, but in terms of like, how I handle not feeling like I can write the story, I try writing anyway, and see what happens, if I get any positive feedback, then that means I seem to have done well? If the words don’t come, if I hate the words when they come, then don’t do the story, I guess?

How do you to start writing a new story?
Usually with whoever the first viewpoint character is thinking, at least loosely, why they’re in the situation they’re in, or the place they’re in or something. A bit of recapping context for the events about to happen.

Are you more of a drabble/flash or a longfic/novel kind of writer?
Longfic/novel-length. I think big, I think grand, I think sweeping. It’s very rare that I come up with an idea that can be really encapsulated in a oneshot, and I don’t think anything I’ve written really comes counts as a drabble.

Do you describe the weather? Try changing a scene you wrote by adding weather effects.
As with most of my desciprtions, I describe the weather fairly directly and simply. I don’t usually try to make the weather fit some thematic appropriateness to the character drama on screen except if I get a very specific vision in my head. So the weather doesn’t matter much to the story going on.
