We know there are a lot of fun things to do this Fall in the White Mountains but you will not want to miss this Saturday in the 100-Acre Wood!  Whether you join us for one of the most fun, dirtiest, and craziest fundraisers in the Mt. Washington Valley, the 100-Acre Challenge, our final Sunset Concert of the Summer, or both, you will be sure to have a great time! We start the day with the 100-Acre Challenge!  Registration will open at 9:00 am followed by the Kids’ Mini-Acre Challenge starting at 9:30 am! There will be two fun courses for kiddos to run! At 10:00 am, The American Rogues will kick off the full course heat with their Celtic Charge! In addition to watching our amazing participants get dirty as they complete this 5K obstacle adventure, there will be multiple food vendors along with live music!  The younger participants and spectators will also get to enjoy our new Kids’ Zone which will feature a bouncy house, ball pit, yard games, and a craft from Home Depot! Following the competition, beer will be flowing as awards are presented and Shark Martin rocks out! Online registration is currently closed but don’t fret, you can still register the day of! We hope all of our participants, volunteers, and spectators will come back to the 100-Acre Wood later that night to rock out with a full concert by The American Rogues at the Theater in the Wood! The American Rogues are equally known for their epic, multi-instrumental sound that crosses the musical landscape to include jigs, reels, hornpipes, ballads, originals, covers, soundtracks, patriotic and military music, Irish foot-stompers and more.  They are fast becoming a household name with music lovers around the world!  They will be rocking the final Sunset Concert of the 9-week series starting at 7:30 pm!!  Tickets are available online right until showtime! This annual fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 28th with registration beginning at 9:00 am behind the Theater in the Wood.  Participants are encouraged to fundraise for their registration fees and more to support the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation’s Outreach Reading Program. All net proceeds of this event will be contributed to the cost of getting more books into the hands, homes, and hearts of children throughout the North Country of New Hampshire. The fun begins with the Children’s Mini-Acre Challenge that will start at 9:30 am. The 5K full course heats will begin at 10:00 am, with heats leaving every 12 minutes with drums and bagpipes from The American Rogues to start things off.  Individuals, teams of 2, 3, or 4 are encouraged to participate!  There are prizes for the top competitors in each division along with the top fundraisers above and beyond the registration fees! Along with the adventure, there will be food trucks including Dueling Chefs Smoke-n-Grille, The Purple Straw, and Trail’s End, and alcoholic beverages available from Amoskeag with a donation.  There will be a number of children’s activities including a craft station provided by Home Depot! Participants and spectators will also enjoy live music during the event provided by Valley favorite, Shark Martin!  Saturday evening, The American Rogues will perform for the final Sunset Concert Series at the Theater in the Wood. Looking into 2019, Believe in Books Literacy Foundation is excited for a number of great fundraising events.  One of the most exciting events we have this year, is the 100-Acre Challenge.  Slated to occur on Saturday, September 28th, the 100-Acre Challenge will be one of our craziest obstacle adventure courses to date.  This is also a fundraising event for each and every participant this year and we are thrilled to see how the competition heats up in both the physical and fundraising aspects. When registering for the event on the Believe in Books website, www.believeinbooks.org, participants will notice that they are not required to pay a registration fee when signing up.  Instead, participants will receive an email with their custom-made fundraising page. Participants are encouraged to then customize their page even more and start fundraising for their own registration fees.  Once they reach their registration goal, Believe in Books Literacy Foundation will reach out to the individuals or teams to confirm that they met their goal and encourage them to try and raise even more funds to compete for the highest fundraiser in their division.  All net proceeds from any individual’s or team’s fundraising efforts will go towards Believe in Books Literacy Foundation’s Outreach Reading Program where we visit over 60 preschool classrooms four different times throughout the school year to give out free books and encourage early reading habits! The participants that raise the most money for our Outreach Reading Program will receive some truly awesome prizes this year.  Registration is open now so sign up and start asking friends and family to help you become the highest fundraiser for the 2019 100-Acre Challenge! With school starting and summer coming to an end, there are quite a few events that the BIBLF staff are looking forward to this fall!  From the Kids’ Fun Run, to Believe in Books Youth Theatre’s open auditions, to our Day of Caring, to the 100-Acre Challenge, September is filled with events for everyone of all ages! The Kids’ Fun Run presented by Memorial Hospital and Story Land, kicks off at 9:00 am on Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd.  This 6th annual fundraiser will take place at Story Land with registration opening at 8:15 am in the back parking lot.  All proceeds will go to our “Books from Birth” outreach program and will help us mail free books to more children! We are still looking for a few volunteers so if you can help out, sign up at www.believeinbooks.org. Later next week on Thursday, September 6th and Friday, September 7th at 6:00 pm at the Theater in the Wood, open youth auditions for BIBYT’s fall production, Disney’s Mulan Jr. take center stage! Auditions are open for kids, aged 7 to 18, to perform in the late-October performance.  Rehearsals are flexible around extra-curricular activities and can be expected to occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sunday evenings until Disney’s Mulan Jr. premieres the weekend of October 26th. The following week on Thursday, September 13th, is Granite United Way’s Day of Caring for Believe in Books Literacy Foundation! We are looking for volunteers to join us on this day, with breakfast and lunch provided, to assist with preparations for our key fundraiser, Journey to the North Pole™.  Volunteers will tie ribbon on bells, fold scarves, and prep our Santa’s Gift Sets.  We are so thankful for Granite United Way and for our dedicated volunteers that are helping us with this event. Finally, at the end of September, we look forward to the 100-Acre Challenge.  This year’s Challenge has a new twist with a fundraising initiative. Participants can register, fundraise, and GET DIRTY for the Saturday, September 22nd event, all for a great cause.  This year’s 100-Acre Challenge will support BIBLF’s “Books in Character” outreach reading program, where BIBLF visits over 60 preschools throughout northern New Hampshire and Maine.  The participants that raise the most funds are set to win some truly amazing prizes!
