#10 random things

I feel like I might have dreamed this meme up; it seems like something I would do in a dream. But I think I was tagged by @o0o-chibaken-o0o to list, what is it, 10 Random Things about myself? Is this a thing? Or am I potentially about to overshare in a really weirdly organized fashion? So be it! 

1. I can’t watch people eat peanut butter off a spoon, even though I like eating it off a spoon myself. It just grosses me out completely, and even when I eat it off a spoon, I’ll do it in private tyvm.

2. I wrote half of a terrible romance novel in high school. I was 15. I wrote 120 pages longhand on legal-sized paper. Did I mention it was terrible? But it got passed around the school (and somehow survived) and people loved it. O_o

3. I came out in 1997 shortly after Ellen’s ‘puppy episode’. I was 22. Everybody already knew.

4. I want to meet all of HP fandom someday! This needs to happen!

5. For about 6 months in college, I was determined to become a theoretical astrophysicist. 

6. I always wanted to get my degree in English (with the exception of that 6 months) and teach creative writing at a university. As it turned out though, I crafted my own Liberal Studies degree so that it’s primarily Contemporary Literature; I got a minor in Written English; and I have a Masters in Academic Advising which I’m super excited to get to work using to help students figure out what they want to do in their lives and create goals to make that shit happen! I’m also fucking terrified.

7. Dancing was my first love before writing.

8. I’m going to be cleaning my bedroom this afternoon. 

9. I have dark brown hair and blue eyes.

1. i’m vitamin d deficient lol; i found out in august after going to the doctors for a physical and getting blood drawn. before this, i was extremely fatigued, like all the time, and i had low energy. normal levels of vitamin d are on a scale from 30 to 100, mine was at a 19... *insert yikes face* so i have to take weekly vitamins. yay

2. i HATE bananas. so much. like, i can’t eat anything with bananas in them. just the smell and mere thought of them makes me sick lol

3. before writing fics on tumblr, i used to write oc on wattpad lmao. i didn’t have a huge following or anything, but i started in 2011 and had a few successful stories. i don’t go on there anymore tho; however, i do log on once in a while and see that i have 2k+ notifications and i don’t understand why people still read the shit i wrote. it’s cringy

4. i love thrift shopping! 

5. you know those spicy korean noodles that everyone did the challenge for a while back? the black packages? yeah, i crave those. i love them soooo much. they’re so good!

6. i get motion sickness sometimes. but it’s not the crazy, roller caster, super fast motion that makes me feel nauseous; it’s the slooooww and repetitive motions - like being on a boat that is gently rocking. i can’t stand it

7. i love, love, love taking nature pics - plants, mountains, oceans, sunsets; i love it all

8. i love spicy/savory food, but i definitely have a major sweet tooth. i remember back in high school, i used to always have candy in my backpack and would eat it throughout all of my classes lol. my friends thought i was crazy

9. it’s really hard for me to genuinely like someone (in terms of a significant other). like, idk why, but i don’t really develop crushes easily. it’s not that i’m super picky, but i just have to get to know people before i can see myself with them. i’ve only ever liked and dated one person in all of my 20 years on this earth. and it didn’t work out sooo lmao

10. even though i’m not lucky in the love department, i’m a hopeless romantic at heart :)

1. I'm one of those people who, when they're driving, is constantly fiddling with the radio.  At the moment, I have a car with radio buttons in the steering wheel so it's soooo much worse than it used to be. Generally, I leave it on the classic rock station when someone's in the car with me because that's the station least likely to get on my nerves.  But when I'm alone sometimes I channel surf to the point that I annoy myself!  I'll switch to a CD just to make myself stop fiddling.

2.  When I'm doing donuts in the morning at work, I listen to music on my phone and dance around the bakery.  I'm not sure it's as smooth as it feels, but I enjoy it.

3.  I've "trained" myself to eat certain foods, but generally speaking I'm very sensitive to food textures and some things I just can't eat.  Like jell-o.

4.  I have to constantly re-learn the fact that you make friends by taking an active interest in other people's lives.  Ask them questions about their interests, etc.  It's not that I'm NOT interested... It's that I'm used to people just telling me things without prompting.  Having to ask is kind of a foreign concept.

5.  I spend so much time in my own head that, at any given time, I'm covered in bruises from walking in to things.

6.  To piggy-back off of #5: I've had LOTS of people give me funny looks after I've pontificated about one thing or another because "gosh, you think a LOT, don't you?"  My brain never, ever shuts up.

7.  I'm quite frightened of spiders, but if they are in a jar... all bets are off.  My face is pressed up against the glass.  The only thing that frightens me more are earwigs.  Do. Not. Google. That. Shit.

8.  I make "friends" at all of the stores I frequent.  This person may not realize they are my friend.  They may not realize they are now my representative at that store.  But, I will always look for them.  I will always feel better if I see them, talk to them, have them help me.  I return to the same person at the same store from then on out.

9.  I hate mac & cheese.  Sorry.  I know that's a disappointment for just about everyone.  (And no, having it home made, from scratch makes no difference.)

10.  I've discovered recently that I have a habit of hoarding store-bought cookies and never eating them.  It's out of hand and really needs to stop.  Or, I need to befriend a cookie monster.  One or the other.  Though, if I befriended a cookie monster... I would rather MAKE them cookies than buy them.  Unless they like store-bought better.

Over the last few weeks I have been reading articles on a music web site where authors and musical players list things that influenced them to where they are now. Just random lists but I thought it was quite an enlightening thing to read. Now I am not famous in anyway, not creative but there are many things that I was influenced by in a musical sense, but also non musically. So after reading…

1.- I am pretty emotional and too sensitive. Like, so much it’s annoying for me. Imagine having a really bad argument with someone and you have so many things to say, so much that you want to let the other people know. Then imagine that your feelings become so strong that you can’t even talk because you know you would cry like an idiot, make no sense and finally lose any credibility and maturity in that argument, so you rather shut up and nod. That’s me every time.

2.- I’m bisexual and I believe in relationships that can last a lifetime. However, I’m pretty skeptical about polyamory romances. It’s just not my cup of tea, but that doesn’t mean that I criticize it or have anything against the people involved in them.

3.- Some of the things that terrified me in my childhood now have become my favorites. For example, I watched LOTR and Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Akhaban when I was 8 or 9, and Gollum and the Dementors scared the shit outta me. Now I can’t live without those movies.

4.- I have, in many situations, too much imagination. I could literally spend my entire life daydreaming and I could die a happy woman.

5.- I love to write and I think I’m good at it, but I’m ashamed and afraid of telling it to my family/friends due to their possible reactions.

6.- I have CRAZY dreams and I dream SO MUCH. Like I wake up so many days exhausted after having so many dreams in the night. I tend to remember everything, which makes it worse. However, it’s worth it.The amounts of adventures I’m able to live in a single night are incredible. Not so cool when I have nightmares though.

7.- One night, I dreamed that an ancient man gave me a fox mask and, when I put it on, I shapeshifted into a sort of spiritual red fox. The dream goes on and on into a pretty random adventure, but at the end I stood alone in the forest with my mask in my hand. Just when I was about to put it on, I woke up. Since that day, I can’t look at foxes the same way I did. Maybe it meant something?

8.- When I enter a fandom and meet a new character that I grow to adore, I pass from being completely invested in it to quietly forget it and pass onto another. There are three fandoms that didn’t go through that do: Batman (Joker), Dragon Age (Solas) and The Witcher (Dettlaff)

9.- I believe Batman is the best superhero out there. He represents every aspect of the definition of “hero”. He is a man with flaws and, despite being “powerless” he has the strongest morals. I really respect him and I look at him as a figure to follow.

10.-I can’t seem to have “favourites”: I don’t have a favourite colour, a favourite movie or show, a favourite number, etc. It just changes as I do, I suppose.

1. I’ve played guitar (both electric and acoustic, there’s no difference other than strings, body and weight) since I was 9 years old so 20 years now.

2. I hate a lot of things and complain a lot so some people have called me Complaint-lyn. For the record, I hate that nickname bc I don’t mean to complain. I also hate the nickname Katie and KK so don’t even try to be funny and call me any of those.

3. Coming up with 10 random facts is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

4. I volunteer every Sunday at a kitty shelter and I work on the meds team. I make sure I give the cats their proper medicine, if or when needed, figure out if they’re sick and feed them.

5. I once touched Natasha Negovanlis’s face. Don’t ask me about it, please, but it did happen and I was MORTIFIED.

6. Spinning classes are my favorite form of exercises, but it’s expensive so I have to take the month off from it and it makes me sad.

7. I moved to NYC for theater, but gave up on that dream a long time ago, but after the Carmilla series, I got involved with improv. I don’t do it as much now bc in NYC it is also ridiculously expensive, but I do, do improv.

8. I will be flying to Toronto in two weeks to see the Carmilla movie in Toronto because I’m crazy, but excited to go back to my favorite city.

9. When I was 14, I tried out for my high school volleyball team, but it took place in an gym that was being built with no air condition in South Carolina in July. So it was probably close to 100 degrees in that gym. Needless to say, I was nervous before so I barely drank or ate anything. The coach made us do suicide drills. Once finished, because I was out of shape, I got water from the water fountain bc I didn’t even bring a bottle and almost threw up. Then went back into the gym and passed out. Literally fell on my face, busted my chin open, had to go to the emergency facility to get 5 stitches in my chin.

10. I played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz my senior year of high school and will never forget how I felt after singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and hearing an audience applaud me for the first time. It is the only moment in my life where I felt a peace.

1. I’m a sucker for Paprika chips. Like I know most countries don’t know it, but it’s my addiction, alright. You don’t know what you’re missing though!

2. Our first family pet was a dog that I picked. I wanted a girl, but chose a boy. I still have a picture of him in my home. His name was Rikkie/Ricky and I still miss him.

3. I’m a picky eater. Didn’t learn to eat rice and pasta till I was 25, but only because I had too. I’m very self-conscious when I have to try something new and everybody is staring at me to see if I like it.

4. I had swim-lessons when I was 5 till I was 15. I have like 13 diploma’s. 6 regular swimming diploma’s, 4 rescue swimming diploma’s and 3 snorkling diploma’s.

5. I know 3 languages. Dutch (native), English and German. I’m pretty fluent in English. I haven’t spoken, read or watched anything in German and it usually takes some effort to listen to it or read it.

6. I have several favorite animals. Manatee/Dugong, horses, whales and cats are a few of them.

7. I don’t eat fish or anything that comes out of a large body of water. I refuse to eat it. I’m not allergic, at least I don’t think. I choose not to eat where life originated from.

8. I can stare for hours at an aquarium (even though I know they’re bad), but I’m so fascinated with sea-creatures.

9. Even though, I went to school and got a degree, I still work at the factory where I started when I was 17/18. I started as a vacation-worker and now have a fulltime 28-35 hour position.

10. I did work-placements and internships for school, but I’ve only ever had that 1 job.
