So, 365 (& a quarter) days ago I went for a drink at the Purple Turtle with this guy I’d met earlier in the summer. I decided I deserved to be social after spending a couple of weeks getting my head down to do some postgrad work. We’d hung out a few times when the rest of The Group went out and bonded over the fact that he was from the same place I’d grown up in. We knew a lot of the same people and seemed to be into a lot of similar things and it all just sort of seemed to fit. It wasn’t a date, really - it was too easy and natural for that. What I remember most about that evening is singing along to Christmas songs, drinking Zombies and Red Stag, and laughing constantly. About everything. There was no awkwardness or weirdness, the whole night was brilliant from start to finish (we also bumped into a friend of mine I hadn’t seen for a long time which was really nice). We spent every weekend together since that day (apart from a small number) before moving in together a few months back and now, here we are one year on, living in our little cottage in Wokingham and getting into the festive spirit with a ridiculous Brussels sprouts filter on Snapchat. I’m rubbish at lovey-dovey stuff but here it is, all the same. Thanks for putting up with my shit over the past year @jasonbond0007. I can’t promise that all our lives will be as funny and easygoing as that first night was, but I’ll do my best to make sure things stay as good as they possibly can.
