I’m sore. I’ve been hitting the weights to maintain strength during all this running so I did that last night after my run. The weights always hit back though so I’m hella sore lol. I’ve been going to hot yoga at least once a week to help as well.

I can’t decide if I want to get more miles in tonight or simply rest up for my 9 mile run tomorrow morning. I might compromise and do a shorter run. This is a deload week for me to recover from the work it’s taken to get my weekly volume over the 30 mile hump (a lot of incremental hard work. a lot of shitty runs) and preparation for more increases.

I have a running hydration vest on its way. I’ll need that for my 14 miler next weekend. And I’ll need that for running the mountains when I’ll be out in Arizona next month, two days after my half marathon. Six weeks after that, I have another race.

I’m working out this year’s races in my mind. It’s a touchy subject. Running is deeply personal sometimes. I want to make sure I’m signing up for races for the right reasons and at the right times and with the right kind of headspace, etc. I might go into my plans in more detail later. As you can see, I enjoy overthinking and overthinking hard on my downtime.

Mentally, I’ve realized that it’s not the weekly big runs that I struggle with. I can go out and hammer out 12 miles but what’s hard for me are the consistent little runs - the runs that feel insignificant but essentially get you to the big runs. Those are hard. Showing up when you don’t want to or when it doesn’t feel important. It is. Consistentcy is. “The weather is bad, I could skip today” etc. You can’t. You just can’t if you want something bigger.

January and February are mentally rough. Bad weather and bad moods come hard and fast. But I’ve learned a lot about what it actually means to be mentally tough:
