6.0 Be an Opportunist
This week we have learned the importance of opportunities. Opportunity will not come and knock at our window or breakthrough our house just to find them as there are many choice. Opportunity is something for us to venture out about, it is a matter of luck, skills, and perhaps a little bit of network involve.
There is basically a website for us to login and search for jobs. It is called GeBIZ. In this portal, all ministries and agencies are allows to advertise the job. It even goes from one agency to another. See how convenient it is?
Well one problem is it requires singpass for us to look at the documents/requirements. They have their reasons of course. Perhaps one of the reason is because it is for Singaporeans only, ensuring that Singaporeans have enough job opportunities. Furthermore it is also more trustworthy with a Singpass that is identifiable. Moreover, sometimes the company or government might even want to check your background to see if you are up to their requirements. If you aren’t they won’t even hire you. Who would want? Let’s say for a government project or high budgeted, would you trust your work with someone who is inexperience? I bet no.
Apart from that, I also learned about the difference between invitation to tender and invitation to quote. Invitation to Tender is normally for the really high budget company that goes up to $30K and higher, whereas Invitation to Quote is for project that cost around $3K and above.
Some requirements might want to see your records, like experiences, therefore it is recommended to do get some work experiences. Several small projects are good to go. At least to show that you are “experienced” in getting jobs and trustworthy.
Normally in the document for the remark area, you might want to put down how much per hour. In case anything happens like prevent any changes. Sometimes when we work for some small agencies, the pay might come about 6months later even. However if we work with Government, they will pay you within 30 days. Yes, it is THAT reliable. Furthermore for the documents itself, if there is any queries, do call them.
