For all of Eve’s willing the time to go faster, once it came to settling herself, sleep evaded her. Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep. And it seemed like she didn’t know how to fall asleep. Was it just a case of closing her eyes and letting it happen? Because that wasn’t working at all. Finally, she gave up, kicking her duvet out of the way and letting her head fall into her hands as she sat on the bed.
Feiyan is okay. Feiyan is fine. Feiyan can take care of herself.
And then a little voice: then why isn’t she calling you back?
Evelyn rose from her bed, not bothering with her dressing gown and just peaking out the hallway to see if anyone was lingering. When they weren’t, she followed along, as softly as she could, to Kian’s room. It didn’t matter what time of the night it was. There was an open door policy between the two of them.Â
Quietly, slowly, and still wincing at the sound the seemed far too loud, she opened the door and closed it behind her, cutting off the light that quickly pooled on the floor. She didn’t call out to him, or try to wake him. Instead, she tiptoed through the chaos of his room and snuck into the bed. The heat of him had always been a steadying comfort but she had never been more grateful than in that moment.Â
