i enjoy watching them as background noise and i’ll admit they helped me get through the books more easily when i was first getting into the fandom but frankly i think of them as an entirely different canon universe from the books for all the characterization changes that were made and despite the fact that i know those changes (like aragorn) were made to make the movie more marketable and watchable for the generation it was released in  and, probably, time/budget constraints (like… tom bombadil), i’m still kinda mad they took away ‘i go to find the sun’ and did whatever they did to legolas. sad. smad.
