hanahaki disease is my fav trope & im SUFFERING from it (figuratively) pls let me ramble..
imagine watching the person you love slowly die from the disease , and you always felt shame and sadness towards yourself , disgusted at how strongly you felt towards a person who adored another so dearly- dearly enough to die from it- and how desperately you wished it was you , how strongly you felt that your love could have protected them from having to die with a love unrequited .
as they begin to wither , you start coughing . you feel a sharp , thorny , prickly pain begin to make its way in your esophagus and lungs . you cough up a petal- small at first- but faintly of the same colour as theirs . you hardly notice the detail until you end up in proximity with them , following a trail of petals leading to the edge of a rooftop , all petals the exact shade of blush coloured pink that have been heaved from your lungs .
the trail that stops at the railing has you curious , as you limp over to where they stop & peer down the bottom of the railing , you see the body of your love , almost artistically surrounded by petals and blood . at the sight , your sickness develops further .
you can no longer breathe , you are suffocating , all you can see , feel , taste , breathe , is them . grabbing at the railing as a means of stabilising yourself , you are overcome with emotions . guilt ? regret ? anguish ? none of it matters anymore , as you find yourself throwing your body down the roof .
in a matching pile of flowers and blood , your bodies finally intertwined , you reach out to grab their hand as your breathing nearly stops . they grab yours back . they turn to face you , almost completely gone , whispering a final phrase as their life finally leaves their body;
"it's always been you."
with this , with them gone , you cant do much anymore but suffer . you cant sob , your lungs far too gone to have any use . you cant cry , your eyes far too worn to have any tears left .
you let yourself let go . hoping to see them in the next life , maybe hoping to some divine power to let you both love each other , to let it be real . visible . true .
one thought;
"together, in death."
