Hi! I’ve been looking into witchcraft for a little bit, but now I really want to start delving into it. I love your blog and you have a lot of info so I was curious what books n things you would suggest starting out with when first starting to practice! Thank you for your time :)
oh boy!
so, I got my start as an edgy 13 year old who’d been agnostic and unhappy (tm) for around a year. Naturally, as you might imagine, I drifted toward wicca. And, as any 13-year old would, I began my research on wikihow. Seriously, I’ve read every wikiHow article with “wicca,” “pagan,” or “witchcraft” in the name. It’s not an awesome start, but (as an edgy 13 year old) I had the magic of tumblr to help me! I’ll have to refer you to our “beginner” tag :)
Otherwise, I have read a couple of books like Wicca for Beginners by Thea Sabin, the Crystal Workbook by Sheril Berkovitch, and Astrology in Modern Language by Richard Blackmore Vaughan, as well as some younger-audience books on greek mythology and “wizardry.” I’ve never actively sought out books on the craft, but if I see one in a pile at a garage sale, I’ll pick it up. (You might find yourself gravitating to books! That’s great! I just don’t want my religion to feel like homework, so I’m more online)
Most of my other literature is in the form of wikipedia pages, magazine or journal articles, and youtube videos (as well as their respective sources). Many people on youtube will film tours of their altars, if you’re thinking of setting one up, but I like watching people’s rituals -- compare what they do to what I do, and make adjustments if I ought to. If you’re looking for associations (if and when you get into spellcasting or the like), my “quick-n-dirty trick” has always been witchipedia, but I do occasionally end up on websites that look like they haven’t been updated since my birth:)
Thanks for asking! If anyone has any other questions like this, I’d be happy to answer:)
