I'm already 16 and nobody has ever showed any interest in me whatsoever, sexually or romantically. I'm not exaggerating. Everywhere I turn there's a happy couple. My friends all have boyfriends or girlfriends while I can't even get a glance from any gender. I mean, i like both boys and girls but no one likes me. I'm so pathetic. I'm just going to be alone forever -jasmine
Hi love,
I know it might not seem this way, but you’re still very young. You still have so much time to find that special someone! At your age, I was very much like you. I hadn’t really had any solid relationships yet while all my friends seemed to have boys fawning over them. I was convinced that I would never find a boyfriend and that I would be alone forever. I thought that I was so ugly, awkward, and weird... otherwise why wouldn’t I have had a boyfriend already?
Now at the age of 24, I’ve had two serious relationships and have dated several other guys. I’ve currently been dating my amazing boyfriend for two years. The same thing will happen to you, love, I can guarantee it! We get so many messages from other teenage girls (and boys) saying the exact same thing you are. I wish I could give you a time machine and take you to see your future so you could see how wrong you are! If I had been able to see my future, it would’ve saved me so many restless nights thinking that I was going to be alone forever.
Think about it this way: there are 7 billion people in this world, logically and statistically you are bound to meet someone who will fall in love with you or want to date you! How many older adults do you know that have never been in a relationship, not even one? I know that I can’t think of any older adult (I’m talking 40’s, 50’s, 60’s) that hasn’t been in at least one relationship in their lifetime! You’re not pathetic. There’s nothing wrong with you. You just simply haven’t had the right opportunities to meet the right people yet! Your time will come, love.
In the meantime, try to increase your chances of meeting that special someone by getting involved in many different activities. Maybe join some new clubs at school, join an intramural sport, etc. Or maybe do things outside of school like volunteer in your community, get a part-time job, take an art class, etc. These things will not only keep you busy, which will help keep your mind off the way you’re feeling, but they will also help you meet new people. With each new person you meet, your chances of meeting someone who will be interested in you romantically increases significantly!
Hope this helps,
<3 Jen
