god training and coming back to the same people- people he was only a little bit familiar with (minus junhwan). but he missed getting to run into his brother, getting playfully scolded by aaron and also getting the chance to eat with him. he knew that aaron was so proud of him and daeyeol was happy with the progress he was making... he just didn’t think that he would miss his brother like this.

which is why he found himself all curled up in his blankets, with his headphones shoved into his ears. as christmas neared it dawned on daeyeol that maybe, just maybe, the two of them may not be able to see each other on christmas eve. and that really hurt daeyeol’s feelings (even though he genuinely did not know what the future could hold). as soon as he could he sent a quick text to aaron before the other was calling him.

just hearing aaron say his name made him whimper into the phone and he pulled the blankets up and over his head. “hyung,” he started but his voice cracked, which honestly just made him even more sad. he tried to swallow down the lump in his throat before he sniffled for a second. but he couldn’t help the next words out of his mouth.

if you were to put daeyeol into a room with some trainees he wasn’t too familiar with followed by one close friend; it would be obvious to see who daeyeol was closest to. for him, he and junhwan had always been close, despite junhwan’s “protests”. but daeyeol knew that it would be important for him to try and get close with everyone, so he started with someone he was more familiar with than others: jude.

honestly jude was someone really cool in daeyeol’s eyes. jude had a lot of qualities that daeyeol did not and vice versa. but this was an excuse to reconnect with someone who he came into the company with.

when he found out that they had to do some special introductions to their dorm, it was time for daeyeol to brainstorm. who could he help out? honestly he could choose anyone but jude was someone he wanted. picking junhwan would be too easy anyway. so with confidence he popped his head into jude’s room with a big puppy-like smile on his face.

working with a producer on such an important track had daeyeol more nervous than usual. he was not familiar with many of the producers. his schedule never lined up with theirs. in addition, they were definitely doing different things and had different interests. daeyeol didn’t really have a lot of interest in composing or producing, he never really deemed himself very good at it. he also didn’t have any clue about producing at all.

so when he found out he managed to snag allie, one of the few girls in the production team. daeyeol was beyond excited. he had heard so many good things about a variety of each of the producers but when he did a deep dive, he found that he enjoyed the music that she had made. he also asked a few friends about her, wanting to learn more about her. just to make sure he didn’t offend her!

when the day came, daeyeol showed up at the right studio ten minutes early, just in case. he even made sure to bring a bottle of icef coffee for her and and his 1L water bottle for himself (but maybe he did save a bottle of sweet brew iced coffee for himself for after the recording). after he knocked, he looked in and bowed his head with a sheepish smile.

you would have to be stupid to not realize that daeyeol may or may not have been... a little starstruck by one of his future dreams dormmates and team member. jaesun had what daeyeol only dreamed of: commercial deals, the eyes of the netizens and immense popularity (at least more than daeyeol, obviously). it was almost as if jaesun was a mini-celebrity.

they were in the practice rooms and daeyeol was having difficulty concentrating. usually he wasn’t so easily distracted and was able to put his head into whatever he could. but this was hard. he was just so enthralled by jaesun’s presence. was this a competitive nature coming out? or was it a little bit of starstruck fever? either way, daeyeol knew he had to try and concentrate even harder than normal...

when they decide to take a break, daeyeol ends up excusing himself to the bathroom to wash his face with water because he needs it. the colder the better at this point. he doesn’t notice that jaesun was apparently also going to the bathroom too and when he does spot jaesun in the mirror as he’s rubbing his wet hands on his face he freezes.

jack and rose. take two.

okay so maybe daeyeol panicked and maybe he asked two different people to be his jack. but also this jack would be someone that daeyeol would be able to take cute couple photos with and not worry about making aaron uncomfortable. he also wasn’t very big into the idea of the netizens seeing him and his brother together too close. he didn’t want to ruin at notoriety that his brother has accumulated. 

when junghwan arrived, it took daeyeol a moment or so to find him. he had originally been with aaron, then he had to flirt a little bit with yushin because yushin thought he was a girl! and now, he can be reunited with his other jack! grinning, he happily bounced through the crowd and embraced his jack, grinning from ear to ear.

“jack!” he calls out, in english, before easily switching back into korean. “my handsome jack, you’ve come to rescue me~” he’s being a little dramatic on purpose as he leans to press their cheeks together for a second. “please come and save me from these posh parties and bring me back to a life of simplicity~” he adds in with a grin as he pulls away and links their arms together.

going back home during the holidays is nice. daeyeol actually enjoys it a lot. there’s no animosity (well, not recently) amongst him, or daewonnie hyung, or his parents. truth be told, daeyeol was sort of... unaware of the tension between his older brother and his parents. especially around their trainee statuses. 

when daeyeol had accepted his trainee contract back in 2018, he was not very aware of aaron’s promise to their parents; to watch over him. so when the two of them arrived back, daeyeol was surprised with the weird amount of... tension. the air felt weird. stronger and thicker. something wasn’t right.

sometimes when you’re dancing, things just don’t go all right.

while dancing today, daeyeol had been stretching himself and his legs until he heard that very, very familiar ripping sound. it made his heart stop and immediately go pink in the face. thankfully it didn’t seem too bad but he still had to finish his dancing class with a hole in his pants. thank god no one seemed to notice (or at least no one said anything).

shamefully he knew he needed help and there was only one person he could think of: soyoun. soyoun and her magic needles will save him. so he managed to change out of his training clothes and back into his normal jeans. and immediately he sped off, holding his adidas track pants as if they had been brutally attacked. when he did manage to spot her, he waved her down before approaching her shyly.
