I think you should just talk to him about anything. Maybe your hobbies, your day, his day,... Just talk and if you get the feeling he likes you too just ask his number at the end of the conversation. You can say something like 'It was nice to talk to you, maybe we can hang out some time? I'll give you my number so you can call me/ maybe you can give me your number so I can text you' giving your number might not be so scary and you'll know if he likes you or not if he calls or not. But if you want to be sure, ask for his number. Or if he let's you put your number in his phone, call yourself and you'll have his number too!
