An Ode to the Mother’s Body is a collaborative project between photographer and doula Sanne Ravensbergen, organization How About Mom and nine new mothers, focused on uplifting and celebrating mothers and the changes in their bodies.

“The stomach is often the part of the body women are most proud of during their pregnancy. It is photographed, modelled and accentuated with the right clothing. But as soon as the baby is born, that same stomach suddenly becomes the body part new mothers are often most ashamed of. Because of stretchmarks, a ‘funny’ belly button, loose skin or changes in shape. While these physical changes from pregnancy and childbirth are completely natural, it seems there is still a taboo around the postpartum body.”
