Henry won’t stop crying.

Not that Sunny blames him, of course, but they’ve locked themselves up in a dilapidated cabin that barely protects them, and hearing his son screaming his little lungs out is the heartbreaking tip of the miserable iceberg.

“Shh, shh,” Sunny murmurs, trying to rock the little one as he wails. “It’s gonna be okay, Henry. Bajie’s just warming your milk for you” -- it’s what he said he’d do when he disappeared to what appeared to be a kitchen in this place, at least -- “and then you can eat.”

Lightning flashes. Thunder cracks.

Henry wails.

It’s a good thing everyone in the convoy’s intact after the Nomad attack, but with the healers having their hands full with patching Quinn and the Chaus’ Clippers up, Waldo clicks his tongue and jerks his head and gives Sunny the worst order he’s ever been given.

“Take care of their youngest.”

It’s not that Sunny doesn’t know how to fix people-- Colts and Cogs essentially go hand in hand, and he’s patched people up and been patched up plenty of times since Waldo found him. He’s not supposed to touch the Baron’s son, though. He isn’t even supposed to talk to him (even though Ryder keeps making it happen whenever there’re parties, Lord help him). The circumstances today are dire, however, and while a Clipper can’t be expected to heal, a Colt’s only a step above a Cog.

So Sunny ends up standing outside Gaius Chau’s tent, frowning as he holds up a tray with everything he needs to heal him.

“Sir,” Sunny says as if Gaius isn’t younger than him, biting back the wicked sentiment on his tongue. “It’s Sunny, Waldo’s Colt.

“All the healers are busy. I’m here to tend to you.”
