The smoke settles to reveal KANG JIHYUN, a 115 year old vampire of Sunseong. She is a cost systems analyst and editorial writer who appears to be adept in illusion magic, enhanced speed, and hand-to-hand combat --- but like most things in Sunseong, there must be more to her than meets the eye.
APPEARANCE:
With (almost) deathly pale skin and a slim figure, Jihyunâs dark brown eyes complement her jet black hair. Her aristocratic features and tall height (as compared to most Korean women) are enough to defer anyone who may potentially talk or annoy her.
BIOGRAPHY:
Born into Korean nobility, Jihyun grew up under the patriarchal rule of her father who had been the emperor of Korea in 1897. Growing up, Jihyun learned various crafts which were said to âbetter her as a womanâ so that she could âmake her husband-to-be happy.â She learned various crafts and was made to undertake many lessons that they said would only âemphasize her femininity.â
Despite the demeaning way in which she was treated because of her gender, Jihyunâs older brother had festered in her the thought that women are, in fact, on equal footing with men. Jihyun and her older brother had developed a bond so strong that when Jihyun was about to be married off to a foreign prince for the sake of a âtrade offâ with one of the nations they were building ties with, her brother had opposed, and through his efforts, the arranged marriage was cancelled.
The Korean monarchy had ended with the start of the Japanese occupation, and along with it, was her older brotherâs life. However, unbeknownst to the teen, her brother did not actually pass through the veils of Death. But instead, he had turned into a vampire.
In 1926, Jihyun had been bitten by her older brother, with the reason that World War II was well on its way and the he was only âsaving his little sister.â When she had woken up, thirsty and confused, it was her brother who had directed her on what to do to quench her thirst. And that was when she had the awful realization on what she was.
As World War II started, so did Jihyunâs descent into madness. She was mad at her brother for taking matters in his own hand. She didnât want immortality, and yet, here she was. She killed night after night. There was a war ongoing and most people attributed her kills to attacks and labeled them as âcollateral damageâ of the war.
During the start of World War II and her life as a vampire, Jihyun had lived with her brother. She loved her older brother dearly for taking care of her all those years, and yet, she hated him for what he had done to her. So when the opportunity to migrate to Japan presented itself, she took it and didnât look back, not even leaving her older brother a note. And after a few decades, Jihyun had finally come back to her homeland, her brother nowhere to be found.
During her time in Japan, Jihyun had earned enough money to enroll herself in night classes, eventually graduating college with a double degree of AB Communications specializing in Journalism, and Management Engineering.
Currently, she works at at a business firm as a cost systems analysist (obviously choosing the night shift) and is an editorial writer in the local newspaper, writing highly controversial pieces produced by the publication.
CHARACTERIZATION:
With a low level of tolerance for incompetence and stupidity, Jihyun values the trait of knowledge most when it comes to judging those around her. She lives in a constant state of motion, always having to do something or the other. Jihyun makes all of her actions or steps and deliberate, only ever executing them after much thought.
Although she may seem cold and blunt at first, once youâve gotten to know her better, youâll find that Jihyun is actually protective of those she consider as important, usually valuing their well-being over her own.
SPECIALTIES:
Illusion Magic, Rank II (40 points) - Jihyun takes the practice of Illusion Magic very seriously. She knows that being able to delude people with illusions, be it traumatic or a happy one is valuable in combat. She tries to make it such that all of her illusions does not only encompass one sense, but is experienced by her target to the core, as if the projected illusion was truth. At her level, Jihyun can only project a full illusion to one individual with minor flaws, and when projected to two people, Jihyunâs illusion can only hold them for 5 minutes at best if they are not acquainted in dispelling illusion magic.
Enhanced Speed, Rank II (40 points) - Faster than the level of a normal vampire, Jihyun is undeniably fast. Jihyun is almost invisible to the untrained eye, her speed making her look as if she was teleporting. On the other hand, to those who have enhanced vision she looks like a blur. However, the fast speed in which she travels is compensated by the amount of blood she drinks. As an effect, the more she travels in high speed, the more blood sheâs supposed to drink.
Hand-to-Hand Combat, Rank I (20 points) - Jihyunâs hand-to-hand combat is greatly complimented by her enhanced speed. Although she still has a long way to go in honing her skills, her higher ranking speed is usually her saving grace.
