there is something dark and foul that lives within all of us, the choice between embracing it or running from it is what makes us human—so-called "free will"

most will deny embracing it, but that darkness—that cruelty—isn't always so overt.

truthfully, it's not that hard to bear.

humans are cruel in a million little ways, a million little times, every single day. some just wield that cruelty differently.

i think i wield mine well, all things considered.

in any case, at least i have the sense to recognise that darkness without the frantic need to suppress it. i can control it.

most of the time, anyway.
