I wrote a little about Chrys and MacCready’s reunion and I started wondering what it would be like if he and Charon saw each other again.
MacCready: Charon! How’s the baddest ghoul from the Capital?
Charon: MacCready… you’re still short.
I’m having feels about my Lone Wanderer (Chrys) and MacCready reuniting:
Chrys left the Capital Wasteland shortly after Maxson took over as Elder- so about 4 years before the events of Fallout 4. The last time she saw MacCready, Lucy was still alive and Duncan was just a baby and her friend was happy. Now she sees him and he’s gone through so much and he’s so far from home and his son that she just cracks and breaks down.
She is happy though, because someone she cares about is alive, and she feels selfish admitting that. But she’s lost so many people in less than a decade (her father, Charon, Sarah, Harkness, Cross, etc.) and she’s spent the last few years alone that she can’t help but hug him and sob into his shoulder.
And she feels regret - had she stayed, had she not run like a coward, maybe she could’ve helped MacCready and his family. He’s just thankful and almost can’t believe his friend is still alive after all these years. But he sees how the wasteland (and loneliness) have worn her down, worn them both down, and he wonders how much more his friend can take.
He lightens the mood by talking about the last issue of Grognak the Barbarian he read and Chrys can’t help but laugh. And it’s cracked and rusty from how long it’s been since she let herself laugh or had reason to do so.
