finally watching ca:cw and it was supposed to be a captain america movie, about steve looking for bucky! but there was so much stark and avengers...
Yeah, many would say that Civil War is really more of an Avengers film rather than a Captain America one. They (the directors) did say that they moved forward with the CW storyline because of Batman v SupermanΒ (initially the two films were set to open on the same weekend, even, before DC budged and moved BvS to March).Β
I wasnβt fully into the fandom yet and quite liked Civil War from an outsiderβs perspective, but then after being more of a dedicated fan (especially of certain characters), it really makes me sad to think about this even up to now:Β
βWe had a model for the Zola plot,β Markus answered. βYeah, the Bucky plot. So we were working on that for a long time before Civil War. Again, thatβs the other Kevin Bomb. He just goes, βCivil War.β So the room goes quiet and Joe Russo just goes, βOh, he just gave us a billion dollar movie. Holy crap.ββ
Also, reading this quote from Feige as a Bucky fan makes me feel a lot of rage and sadness:
βWe developed Captain America 3 knowing we wanted to continue the Bucky story. Is Bucky going to get his mind back? What is Bucky struggling with, after the tag scene on Winter Soldier, and how does Steveβs desire to save Bucky bring him into conflict with something else, thinking about how do the sins of his past sort of affect him? And [writers] Chris [Markus] and Steve [McFeely] came up with a number of cool plots that couldβve worked, but none of them were feeling worthy of a follow up to Winter Soldier.β
Makes you wonder how better different the original plan was, if Marvel/Disney wasnβt so concerned about pulling ahead of the competition and making $$$, how much more sensible and true it would have been for the Captain America plot and characterisationβ¦ sigh.
