~The water was her home and rarely did she leave it, or stray too far from her pod and her sisters. Isabela, with her wavy brunette hair that hung enough to cover her bare breast, bright green eyes and glistening yet powerful tail, was beautiful like most mermaids that lived in the depths of the ocean, and like the rest, they would use their beauty to lure sailors to their deaths, drive them insane and often pretend to guide them, only to get them lost further and further out to sea. It wasn’t cruel, not to them, simply nature and instinct. But lately, Isabela found herself losing interest quickly in the many strong and handsome sailors and their beautiful ships, because something else had captured her curiosity much much more.
It was a woman, a beautiful and strong looking one with hair like the fire she’d seen humans build near shore, and a voice like that she’d never heard before. This strange woman had caught her attention faster than any man ever had, and every day, Isabela would swim to where she often found her, and listen and watch, making sure to stay hidden, until the other left or she herself was forced to leave. Never would she bring another here, because Isa wanted to keep this all to herself. It was a never failing cycle for her, and she quickly became surprised with how disappointed she would feel when she arrived and there was no one there, and how happy her heart felt when the woman would come back. This day was one where she was here, and Isabela would watch her little secret contently, admiring from afar.
But today, she wanted to see just how close she would get, venturing closer than her usual spot to get a better look, which resulted in the mermaid getting dangerously close to short. A trap, perhaps set by humans to fish, or maybe ever for her kind, had caught her and cut her fluke painfully, causing her to cry out. Due to how dangerously close to shore she had gotten, it was almost impossible for her to get to a sort of safety. Panicking, the female tried to free herself, only causing more damage to the fin itself. She was certain that this was it, and that she would never get free from the steel. She was going to die here, never having a chance to make herself known to the woman with the beautiful voice.
