Caitlin Glass was likely cast as Kirigiri because she sounds the closest to how Megami33 did in Faulerro's Dangan Ronpa Abridged Thing. I'd wager that entire dub was written to lean on the success of Faulerro's work, hence why it comes off as such a joke: they were actively attempting to win over the meme crowd by destroying any sense of gravitas in the killing game with bad humor where there was none before. DR3's dub carried holdovers of that intent in spite of the darker setting and it shows.
the dub is just a poorly executed attempt to reach the majesty of faulerro’s danganronpa abridged thing. they tried their best to reach the levels of writing genius used in that project, but they didn’t realize that no work of media could ever come close to it. it is an untouchable piece of content, rising above the rest to prove itself as the ultimate danganronpa installment. in this essay i will-
IN ALL SERIOUSNESS yeah funimation was trying to please the overwhelming crowd of dr fans who love the memes. but that’s the thing, even the memelords are fans of danganronpa because of how dark it was. the jokes and memes are actually funnier given the context of the show. part of it is the shock factor, i guess.
either way, funimation tried too hard with their humor, and while it was pretty funny, it didn’t fit the overall mood and tone of the show. danganronpa is dark. it’s a story about murder, for christ’s sake. and while they are teenagers, they’ve still been thrust into a life-or-death situation that forces them to grow up all too soon. danganronpa is a mature story, and the characters mature considerably along the course of events. all of the try-hard humor takes away from that effect.
