➥ a close friendgroup: small and close-knit, there is nothing she wouldn’t do for this group of people. joni is an incredibly loyal friend, and if you let her in, she will be your friend for life. she’s never once worried about talking too much or being a burden to them. ➥ her sisters ( 0/2 ): joni is the youngest, and with that comes a long-standing history of being babied. did her sisters contribute to it a bit? yes and no. they definately are a bit more protective and nervous about joni coming into her own than they need to be — but they couldn’t be more proud of her. these two are the two biggest stars in joni’s sky, and they are her entire universe.

born a wide-eyed, smiling little girl, joni baker was always told that she must have been hand-crafted by god out of sunshine. she was the kind of girl who would catch bugs and make sure they were let back outside safe and sound — and she was kind to everyone she came across. and yet, there was always a struggle of getting too attached, because joni was constantly moving for her father’s deployment. rarely did her family stay somewhere for more than a year, two if they were lucky. thus, no place in her young life ever truly felt like home — not even georgia, where she was born. 

however, her father’s sudden passing changed everything when she was seven years old. her mother was told it was a sudden aneurysm, a striking of the universe with no true rhyme or reason. her mother tried to keep her from the pain as much as possible, trying to be strong for her daughter — when all she asked was when her father was coming home. then there were her two older sisters, who saw what their mother was attempting to do. it’s not that joni was ever sheltered; it was that they never wanted her spirit to be broken.

the women return to georgia to live with her grandparents in the aftermath of her father’s tragic loss, but it’s clear that her mother is still engulfed by it all. there are too many memories here. thus, when she’s offered an administrative position in a small town called intercept within their school district, she accepts. joni, now thirteen at this point, is irritable at first being moved at such a sensitive age, but things begin to make a bit more sense the more settled in she gets. 

the one thing that’s never changed about joni? the smile on her face. gentle, patient and kind to everyone that she meets, she’s often been called too nice for her own good, too trusting. it's so much harder being mean. she’s become a bit more vigilant as she’s entered her twenties to not worry their mother or her sisters – that she’d be just fine making a life for herself on her own. she left the nest at twenty-four, partially out of her own fear of starting a life on her own, but also wondering if their mother needed someone there. by the time she left, she’d be an empty nester. 

did joni get a job at the dairy farm just to be around animals all the time? maybe a little bit. she does enjoy any opportunity she can get to help people, make their lives easier, and even manages to find something to be passionate about when it comes to office busy work. she’s just happy she gets to spend quiet days surrounded by the farm, and has built quite the little corner of the universe for herself at her desk. she's deeply grateful to the silva family for their generosity, and certainly will make every attempt to show it.

what has always been joni’s first love — as much as a hopeless romantic as she’s always found herself to be? music. each of the baker siblings had their niche, and joni’s was found in the days when she spent hours fiddling with her grandfather’s well-loved guitar. although the instrument itself had certainly seen better days, she found herself stringing melodies together in her spare time, before beginning to put words to them. songwriting became her safe haven, and yet, she never quite found herself seeking out a career. maybe, deep down, she believed she wasn’t good enough. there were better voices, ones that were made for the stage, and she came to the conclusion that hers was not one of them. then there’s the fear of what could come of it, if music would stop being a love and more of an obligation. therefore, it’s just for her.

joni has taught herself how to play various instruments over the years that are in a similar family to the guitar such as the mandolin, banjo and the bass. she’s lived with sue, her best friend for as long as she can remember — but unpacking their relationship may take forever to explain.

perhaps he was meant to be an outlaw, screaming his lungs out from the very second he opened his eyes. the eldest child of four in a small born in a dump somewhere in mississippi, he quickly learned that their father wasn’t fit to be the man his children deserved, with a very short temperament while their mother was more focused on keeping her husband’s eye from wondering than taking care of her own children. thus, he stepped up to be the man of the house far earlier than he ever had to. when his father came at one of the younger ones, screaming like hell, remi learned to scream right back – only louder. where was their mother? one may say god only knows, but the common man's god was far from this home.

he only became worse when his younger sibling was born, an unexpected pregnancy that resulted in complications, and their mother’s death. he grieved his mother, or what their relationship could have been – but he knew his siblings needed a protector now more than ever. he had to keep his head up, it couldn’t falter. he takes his siblings to and from school every day, prepares their meals, helps them with their homework when they don’t understand it. all the while, his father calls him worthless. nothing. that he’d never amount to anything, no matter how hard he tried. then came the blame aimed at his youngest child, for taking their mother from him. that was the first night remi lay hands on his father. he was bigger now, wasn’t he?

the first chance he gets, he does perhaps the last thing that his father expects from him: he joins the army. his siblings are old enough now to the point where they’re making something of themselves, or at least the other two can keep an eye on the youngest. most of his early twenties are spent training, working towards something, but he doesn’t quite know what yet. that is, until his first tour. by twenty five he’s overseas, sending money back to his siblings all the while. making sure their stable.

but in his late twenties — everything changes when he rescues a comrade in combat. when he wakes up in the hospital his left leg is gone, and while he’s being given a purple heart for his valor, he needs to be medically discharged. at this point it’s all he’s ever known, what his given his mind, body and soul to. and he couldn’t possibly have a next step that he’s able to take.

he appears aimless for a while, that is, until he finds himself embroiled with the vipers. it’s something — gives him some kind of protection in a universe that has been anything but kind to him and forced him to protect himself. his siblings ending up in intercept happened pretty gradually after that. at the end of the day, the ambrose siblings always seem to find each other.

aries sun, virgo moon, capricorn rising. remi comes off as a very serious person, full of fire. and yet, he’s also logical in his thinking. he rarely ever acts impulsively, unless it comes to the people that he loves.

remi’s known he was gay since he was fourteen years old, but he struggled with it for some time considering his father’s view of what a man should be. he didn’t truly allow himself to come to terms with it until he left for the army, and is far more comfortable with himself — despite struggling to maintain intimate relationships outside of one night stands.

➥ OLDER SIBLING: there is some resentment here, because daria feels like she gave up her life to take care of their parents, while this character was already away at school and building a career for themselves. my idea was that this character is a lawyer, government official, or maybe works as a respected doctor at the local hospital. either way — comparison is the devil, and daria constantly finds herself constantly feeling like a failure in comparison to this sibling. ➥ ROOMMATE: daria and this person together moved in together about two years ago. they’re very comfortable around each other, and even would go as far as to call each other close friends. their personalities may seem different sometimes, but when they’re similar, it works.

daria was born and raised in rural intercept into a family of produce farmers — who were successful enough to put food on the table for themselves and their two children, but not successful enough for little luxuries. a quiet, sweet girl soon blossoms into quite the confident little thing when she becomes of school age, her flamboyant personality finding her in her first acting class at the age of ten — which lit a spark that would soon take her through the rest of high school.

in town, she became a local celebrity. valedictorian, the lead in every school musical, cheerleader and prom queen. and yet, everything changed when her mother got sick when she was sixteen. everything at the farm fell apart, and she found herself asking herself one question: does she take the time to work at a “survival job” and defer her time at nyu’s tisch program — or does she go, and nearly drown in student loans?

deciding on the first option, daria sits her father down and tells him that she plans on staying home to help him. and yet, even after her mother passes from lung cancer when daria’s in her early twenties — she finds herself feeling stuck. she’s made roots here now, and has blossomed not into the person she expected to be: but it’s something.

daria has made herself a bit of a staple in the astroland community ( despite it being less than ideal ), and she’s found herself making some amount of peace with her life — even if she’s come to realize that “making peace” is sometimes something someone says to make themselves feel better. if you can’t find her at astroworld, you can find her behind the bar a couple of times a week at club enigma — a position she she took on a couple years ago when she realized that her bills were getting higher, but her paycheck wasn’t.

her father has found some stability now thanks to some assistance from daria herself, but some people closest to her worry that she’s stretched thin between working two jobs to make ends meet and taking care of her dad. and yet, she just flashes her prom queen smile and shrugs it off — she’s doing fine. or so she says.

aquarius sun, leo moon, taurus rising. daria is incredibly confident, intelligent and possesses a natural charisma that draws people to her. and yet, she also requires a certain amount of stability in her daily life and surroundings.

one would consider daria a regular in the local thrift shops and vintage stores. she has an electric sense of dressing that one would almost describe as effortless — and now has slowly begun to fall under what one might call the “90’s grunge” subgenre.

➥ FATHER OF HER CHILD: her daughter, nora, was the product of a fling with a family friend back home in chile that continued to repeat over the course of the better part of a decade, when he joined the muñoz siblings in intercept by choice. when nora was born, connie thought he’d want to be a father and be excited about their daughter having a peace of them — given their history. and yet, she couldn’t have been more wrong. this person could have had a reason, or was simply scared to be a father — i’m willing to plot. and yet, connie has struggled to let this person back in her life.

constanza muñoz was born as the eldest daughter in a large and loving family. and yet, middle child syndrome didn’t quite seem to escape her growing up. many had their roles, but despite the amount of love their family had to give — connie always found herself somewhere stuck in the middle. santiago was the eldest, lucy was the baby, and the rest was history. she struggled to know who she was for a lot of her early years — but she knew she respected her eldest brother.

it all started when she started “making the wrong friends.” it’s almost like they knew she didn’t know where she was going, what she was good at, or who she wanted to be. and yet, it’s a quick descent into delinquency that lasts several years. juvie stints, court appearances, the works. and yet — she felt wanted. needed by these people, as if she actually mattered to them, having convinced herself that she would have somehow faded into the background.

a shell of her former self and wanting to get back on the right path once she hit her early twenties, following her atonement to her mother and rebuilding her relationship with her siblings — she relocates to intercept to be with santiago, and wastes no time making the fresh start count. she gets a job at orion’s garage where she answers the phones at first, but soon finds her working with the owner at the time after months of badgering. but her life would come to a screeching halt two years later — when she’s staring at a positive pregnancy test. in a startling turn of events, the father, someone whom she deeply trusted, had no intentions of being in her life.

nora eleanora muñoz was born on a sweltering august afternoon nine months later, and although connie was fucking terrified to be a mother — it was clear when she was surrounded by her family, she was going to be the opposite of alone. she slowly but surely gets her feet underneath her, still itching to go back to work at the shop — because she’s working for two now.

before long, nora is approaching double-digits, and her mentor and friend is talking about retirement. something about how his knees weren’t what they used to be, and that he wants connie to take over operations at the shop. he reminded her that she had studied his work forwards and backwards, that she had an extensive list of clientele who trusted her — and a team that respected her. she would be fine. in the years since, connie has both kept the same traditions of the man who came before

considering her background back in chile, connie is incredibly dedicated to the concept of second chances. she not only spends her time volunteering with a non-profit working with recently released prisoners integrating back into society, but she is a regular volunteer at the local shelter. it’s her way of feeling like she’s doing something good with the wake up call she was given outside of her work.
