Amelia and Lorcan had been “dating” for the better half of a month now, and in that time she had come to a conclusion. Dating was hard. You had to spend so much time with the other person - at breakfast, during breaks, studying together in the common room, practicing in the music rooms. But Amelia found herself enjoying the hours she’d spent with Lorcan. He was sweet and talented and remembered that she liked her coffee with two sugars and milk. He had the oddest sense of humor that would leave her giggling for the rest of day. Giggling! She was beginning to feel something for the older boy. What it was she couldn’t say, but it was something.
Amelia overslept that morning, entering the Great Hall just as Lorcan’s fist slammed into the wood. She had tried to catch him, but he was too quick. She grabbed the nearest paper, scanning the contents. Oh no. Poor Lorcan. She sprung up from her seat, running out the Great Hall. She had to find him. Make sure that he wasn’t alone or that he hadn’t hurt himself or worse. She had already looked in all of the places that made sense - the classrooms, the dungeons, the library, the Hospital Wing, the music rooms - but he was no where to be found. Anxiety coursed through her veins as she searched the empty hallways, her beat of pounding heart interrupted by the bell that signaled final period. Oh. The school day was almost over. That would only give her a few more hours to search the grounds before night fell.
“Lorcan?” She trudged through the frozen ground, bringing a palm up to shield her eyes from the wind. She spotted his figure up near a grove of trees and ran towards him. “I - I’m so sorry about what happened to your father, Lorcan.”
