extremely rushed and messy st5 thoughts
i forgot to take notes on what i wanted to talk about in volume 2 so this is gonna be off the dome messy stuff
vol 1 hm bc i noticed something: in robin's tammy speech she says "i knew right then and there that she was the one"... sound familiar??? exactly. doesn't matter bc byler is bones but the duffers LOVEEEE to say i knew right then and there... interesting.
ships & romance: vol 2 focused more on the nonromantic relationships in the show and I LIKED IT THAT WAY. i know that means we don't have any build up for byler or whatever. but goddamnit, we have so many good things that came out of that volume. karen fucking wheeler, holly and max, robin in the larger group dynamics, mr clarke coming in clutch with the wormhole (?????!!!!!??!!!!!!!), etc etc. and the romantic relationships that did get attention were handled so beautifully. lucas and max's reunion made me cry, and the jancy confession/breakup/makeup(???) was such a good scene. and even robin and vickie's fight was pretty good.
jane and kali: i'm really fucking confused by their arc. i just think there's a little too much emphasis on jane dying that it might not actually happen. my current running theory is that kali will sacrifice herself so jane can have the waterfalls and a happy ending. ORRRR she makes jane see/experience that life in their last moments, which is bleak and fucked up but entirely possible.
dustin and steve: they're either going to save the whole day or they're both going to die and unfortunately it's looking like both will be the case. they are having all these heartfelt conversations and getting closer again and idk i just have a terrible feeling about it.
i think i'm going to do a part two to address the coming out scene bc there's a lot to discuss with that.
