Here, have a little excerpt from the Winter fic:
The next morning she demands to see the base’s commanding officer. He’s hunched over a comm system as if staring at the screen will conjure up news from Yavin. Any news. There’s only silence.
“Oh,” he says in surprise as Winter enters his office. “You’re Echo, right?”
Echo is the only name she gave him. He looks as though he wants to say something more, but catches it behind his teeth.
The stolen Imperial datacube that she gave him when she arrived sits on his desk, holding every detail that she could remember about the base on Bovis VI. When she adds up every scrap of intelligence she gathered it doesn’t amount to much. The layout of the three lower levels of the base, an incomplete write-up of its security measures, a list of officers on duty and all the kitchen gossip she was able to gather about their lives. There wasn’t enough time to confirm fleet patterns or even steal a roster of the personnel on duty.
She’s never abandoned a post before. Never.
“I want a mission,” Winter says.
