"Goodbye" (a summary?)
Hand pressed flat against the smooth, polished wood, the queen felt her heart crack. The iron control she'd maintained over her emotions faltered, letting a surge of rather unqueenly emotion spill through. Aelin choked out a soft sob, closing her eyes, and pressed her other hand flat against the dark mahogany of Gav's coffin, tears dripping silently onto the wood.
Another set of hands joined hers, these ones pocked with bruises and tiny cuts, calluses lining the palms. Another set of Ashryver eyes dropped tears onto the Lion's coffin, the son Gav had barely met paying his final respects to his father.
"H--he loved you, Aeds," Aelin rasped, dragging her gaze up to her cousin's.
Aedion swallowed thickly, uncharacteristic grief cleaving his features. "I know."
Aedion's arm came to rest around Aelin's shoulders and hers around his waist as Gav's coffin was lowered into the ground. She gripped his free hand, feeling his warrior's body shake with the effort of holding back his sobs.
"Goodbye, Gavriel," she whispered, somehow surprised to find herself grieving so deeply for a male she hardly knew. "Rest well."
Beside her, Aedion released a deep exhale. "Goodbye," he echoed, "my...father."
"Goodbye."
