So I saw this post saying that you can get LGBT pride gear at like Target and Old Navy, but then I started looking at the options and like
They’re alright, especially considering how Mainstream these places are and how this is good for queer acceptance, if maybe only in a “we will allow it because we can make money off of it” way. (Which technically is still good, as a sign of increasing acceptance. I mean it’s not single-handedly ending homophobia but I’ll take it.)
But most of the designs are just rainbows, and all the text on them is “pride” and “love is love.” None of them actually say “gay.” Adidas’s collection has LGBT in the product name, Nike has it in the collection description. Target has some gift cards with LGBT in the product name but I think they lose points there for this shirt that says “happy” in rainbow letters. I’m confident that someone is patting themself on the back for thinking of that and some execs are really glad that they could BASICALLY say gay without scaring off homophobes.
Like I get that “I’m gay” is not necessarily something that everyone in the community wants on a shirt but like. It’s OK You Can Say Gay. We All Know You’re Thinking It Now Stop Acting Like We Are A Bad Word And Commit To Being Supportive.
But on the bright side, there is a tank top with a picture of a T-rex waving a rainbow flag.
tbh i’ve only continued buying records in the hopes that when i do become passionate about it again i’ll be happy with my collection
